Job Description

The Salaried GP is expected to work according to the Job Plan provided, to provide continuity of care for out patients. The practice operates an on-call system which includes an AM and PM responsibility. The Salaried GP will be expected to undertake this duty on a scheduled basis. The Salaried GP will be expected to carry out the administration duties associated with the patients they see, within their working day.



The salaried GP will be expected to undertake other reasonable duties including performing medicals, filling in forms including cremation forms, perform medication reviews and respond to medication queries. The Salaried GP will be responsible for carrying out any other reasonable duties within their overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post. Triage, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly Assess, diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition (as appropriate) Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within the scope of practice Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care. Support and manage health needs of women presenting for family planning, cervical cytology or sexual health consultation Assess, identify and refer patients presenting with mental health needs in accordance with the NSF for Mental Health Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children where appropriate Undertake minor surgery as appropriate to competence Develop policies and procedures relevant for local and collaborative working and clinical improvement.



Carry our any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post. Ensures self-compliance with data protection laws and confidentiality agreements, and only shares patient information with authorities and organisations where appropriate to do so. Accesses medical records only when there is reason to do so, and treats all information from any source a strictly confidential. Follows confidentiality policy, computer use policy, information governance policy, social media policy and any other policy relating to confidentiality within the role.

Understands and applies legal issues regarding domestic violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse and addictive behaviour.



Provide guidance and support to ensure appropriate referral if required Follows Harborne Medical policies and procedures relating to health and safety Mitigates risks to employee and patient health and safety by contributing to risk assessments, escalating concerns and ensures adequate training in all areas of their role. Understands and uses Safeguarding, Daxtix and Significant Events processes when necessary Effectively manages any health and safety issues raised. Effectively communicates with patients and colleagues Comfortably and confidently communicates verbally, as well as written methods including email Assists with the investigation of complaints where relevant.
