The Sales Development Manager purpose is to drive sales growth by managing existing SME accounts and securing new business with large-scale customers, including mass retailers such as supermarkets, the DIY sector, and suppliers that do not manufacture in-house. To be responsible for identifying and winning high-value tenders, expanding the company's presence in major chains, and building long-term strategic relationships.
Reporting to the Head of UK Sales, the successful candidate should be a proactive, commercially driven professional with a strong network of industry contacts being highly desirable.
Main Job Responsibilities:
Sales Growth & Business Development
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, converting leads into profitable sales while achieving annual revenue targets. Manage and develop existing accounts, driving up selling opportunities and long-term client relationships.
Customer/Account Management & New Business
Enquiries - Act as the primary point of contact for all new business enquiries, providing a high standard of customer service. Handle telephone and email enquiries efficiently, collaborating with internal teams to ensure prompt and effective resolutions.
Quotation & Commercial Proposals
- Prepare and present tailored quotations based on new customer requirements, ensuring commercially viable and competitive proposals.
Project Leadership
- Oversee the end-to-end management of new sales projects, ensuring a structured approach through the process pipeline. Maintain clear communication with key stakeholders and customers at critical milestones.
Strategic Support
- Provide high-level support to the Head of UK Sales and Business Development Manager, contributing to strategic initiatives and market expansion efforts.
Reporting & Administration
- Maintain comprehensive client records in our CRM, track pipeline activities, and produce monthly reports to support data-driven decision-making.
Key Competencies/Experience
:
Proven Sales Track Record
- Experience in a sales/business development, or account management role, ideally within B2B sectors such as manufacturing, FMCG, chemicals, pet or automotive.
New Business Development
- Demonstrated success in identifying, prospecting, and securing new business, including experience with high-value tenders and large accounts.
Key Account Management
- Experience managing and growing relationships with major clients, preferably in sectors like supermarkets, DIY retailers, or suppliers without in-house manufacturing.
Commercial & Negotiation Expertise
- Strong experience in pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and delivering profitable sales growth.
Project & Pipeline Management
- Ability to oversee the entire sales cycle from lead generation to contract closure, ensuring seamless execution.
Customer Service & Relationship Building
- Experience in providing excellent customer support, handling complex enquiries, and maintaining long-term partnerships.
Industry Knowledge
- Familiarity with procurement processes, supply chains, and compliance requirements within relevant industries.
Reporting & Data Management
- Proficiency in maintaining CRM systems, tracking pipeline activity, and producing structured reports for senior management.
