About us

------------

UCL is one of the UK's premier research and teaching Universities (www.ucl.ac.uk) and has one of the largest Biomedical Faculties in Europe. UCL is both a Cancer Research UK Centre and an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre providing key infrastructure for cancer research. The UCL Cancer Institute is a 40 million investment in central London based at University College London (UCL), one of the world's top universities and a founding member of the Crick Institute. UCL Cancer Institute draws together over 300 scientists working together to develop world-class basic and translational cancer research. Through our associations with UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the Institute has greater clinical links than any comparable centre in the UK and a significant impact on the delivery of clinical service to cancer patients. This concentration of excellence, access to patients and significant recent investment of cancer treatment and research infrastructure makes UCL a global leader.

About the role

------------------

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the most definitive study of sarcoma epidemiology to date, funded by Sarcoma UK, and Bone Cancer Research Trust n collaboration with NHS England / NDRS. The post will be based in a NHS England office in either London, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Cambridge, or Manchester. Homeworking with travel to an office when necessary can also be considered.

The National Disease Registration Service (NDRS)

is part of NHS England's Transformation directorate. We are internationally recognised for our data curation and expertise in the analysis and interrogation of data to provide evidence for clinicians, patients, academics, industry and others. We work in partnership with other groups across NHS England and beyond, to identify, collect, collate and quality-assure detailed and rich population-level datasets for specific diseases and conditions. NDRS is an international leader in population-based disease registration services, real-world clinical data quality assurance, surveillance and monitoring. We also have significant skills in data science, analytics and complex data processing systems.

NDRS teams manage the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) and the National Congenital Anomaly and Rare Disease Registration Service (NCARDRS). For these population registration services we collect and quality-assure data from every patient in England diagnosed with these registerable conditions. We provide intelligence to drive improvement in standards of cancer care and clinical outcomes. The NCRAS builds on the work of partner organisations and teams to develop world class cancer intelligence for NHS England, partners - nationally and internationally - and the local public health system.

New analyses include the number of people living with cancer, how outcomes vary between different patient groups and by stage at diagnosis, and an insight into cancer equality metrics.

This project is funded until October 2029.

In the Cover Letter please provide evidence of the essential and desirable criteria in the Person Specification part of the .
