About the Role



An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced finance professional to join our Schools Finance Team on a temporary basis, supporting schools across the borough who have purchased additional financial support services from the local authority.

We're looking for a confident, motivated and proactive individual with strong finance experience in the education sector. This is a specialist financial role (not a general SBM position), with a strong focus on providing hands-on and strategic finance support to schools.

You will play a key role in supporting school leaders and governors in managing budgets effectively, ensuring compliance, and providing high-quality financial analysis and advice.

Key Responsibilities



Deliver tailored financial support to a number of schools based on their service level agreement Provide transactional finance services including: Month-end reconciliations Payments processing VAT submissions Provide strategic financial support, including: Budget analysis and forecasting Preparation of financial reports for Headteachers and Governing Bodies Support with Deficit Recovery Planning Assist with the implementation and training of new finance systems Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable information for non-finance stakeholders

Skills & Experience Required



Strong working knowledge of school finance, including funding mechanisms and national funding policy Proven ability to communicate financial information effectively to school leaders and governing bodies Experience using one or more school finance systems (e.g.

Access

,

RM Finance

,

SIMS/FMS

) Advanced

Excel

and general IT skills - capable of turning raw data into useful insights Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience handling challenging conversations with professionalism and diplomacy Able to manage multiple priorities under pressure
