School Business Manager Job description
Due to the retirement of the current post-holder, the Governing Board are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, proactive and experienced School Business Manager to join our friendly and hard-working team from 1st January 2026.
Hornsea Community Primary School is a large coastal, primary school with over 400 pupils, and an Enhanced Resource Provision for pupils with SEMH needs.
The current School Business Manager will remain in post until 30th January 2026 to support with the handover and transition of the new SBM into post.
This pivotal role offers the opportunity to make a real impact on the success and sustainability of our school and to enable others in the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.
As School Business Manager, you will be responsible for the effective management of the school's finances and resources, personnel, premises, and administrative functions. Working closely with the Co-Headteachers and Governors, you will help shape strategic decisions and ensure the smooth running of our school.
Key Responsibilities:
To work as part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the leadership of, and day to day management for, Finance, Premises, Health and Safety and Personnel. You will liaise with the Co-Headteachers and Governors for all school budget matters, including those related to the ERP.
To ensure that the Governors and the Co-Headteachers are provided with appropriate information to ensure effective financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
To ensure school resources are maintained and that procurement procedures ensure best value in every area.
To actively seek grants and funding streams in order to enhance the overall school budget.
To liaise with the Local Authority Catering Team for all matters related to the school kitchen.
To ensure that the buildings and grounds are maintained and comply with health and safety guidelines and statutory inspections.
Along with Local Authority Human Resources support, ensure that the human resource function of the school supports staff and Senior Leaders.
To ensure effective recording of staff attendance, processing of contracts and reporting of working patterns and hours for payroll services.
To support the development of school policies and procedures.
To drive efficiency and innovation across school operations.
To be responsible for and line manage Administrative, Premises and Lunchtime Staff.
To be the named Data Protection Officer.
