School Cook
Grade 2, spinal point 3-4, 24,796 - 25,185 pro-rata
Permanent, Term time only, 30 hours per week
Required from March 2026
The Governors of this popular primary school are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated School Cook to work with the school's Catering Manager to provide an excellent catering service providing our children with high quality, balanced meals and ensuring dietary requirements are met.
Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out in accordance with the school specification and normally under the general direction of the Catering Manager, these include, but are not restricted to:-
- Direct the work of a small team
- Managing and contributing to the preparation, cooking and service of food and beverages accommodating any special dietary requirements and following agreed menus.
- Managing and contributing to the transportation of meals and goods between kitchen and service points throughout the site as necessary.
- Control of the servery
- Managing and contributing to the washing up, setting up and clearing away equipment and tables
- Managing and contributing to the cleaning of the kitchen, surrounding area and equipment.
- Managing and contributing to the receipt and safe storage of goods, stock control, stocktaking and completion of monitoring sheets reporting any discrepancies to the immediate line manager
- Contribute to the catering provision at special events as required.
Responsible for the security of the kitchen.
- Ensure equipment is fit for purpose and properly maintained.
- Ensure compliance with Hygiene, Health and Safety legislation and School policy and procedures at all times
- Regular communication with the client and other stakeholders in order to maintain good working relationships.
- Checking the kitchen at the end of the day.
- Attend training as and when required.
- Any other duties appropriate to the nature, level of the post and grade.

This position is paid whole time with retainer adjustments applied to periods of school closure. You will not be required to work during the school closure periods however your salary in these periods will be adjusted accordingly in line with the retainer regulations as specified in the National Joint Council (NJC) Green Book agreement.
