is seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Officer to join our school on a temporary basis to support pupil welfare, ensure compliance with statutory health standards, and oversee the management of medical care within the school setting.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Safeguarding, Pastoral and Admin teams to ensure all pupils' medical needs are met and that our health and safety practices meet Ofsted and Department for Education (DfE) requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RGN) or Medical Practitioner (Doctor) with a passion for child welfare and community health who is looking to apply their clinical expertise in an educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Review, update and maintain student medical records in line with GDPR and safeguarding requirements.
Audit the school's medical files, first aid supplies, and health equipment to ensure compliance with Ofsted and school policy.
Provide medical support, advice, and first aid to pupils and staff as required.
Develop and update Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) for pupils with medical needs.
Ensure the safe storage, administration, and record-keeping of medications on site.
Train and advise staff on first aid, infection control, and emergency medical procedures.
Liaise with parents, carers, and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Support the wider school welfare and safeguarding agenda through professional practice and confidentiality.
Person Specification
Essential:
Registered Nurse (NMC) or qualified Doctor (GMC) with current registration.
Proven experience in a clinical, school nursing, or community health role.
Strong understanding of health and safety, infection control, and first aid procedures.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a school setting.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
Experience working in a school, education, or child-centred environment.
First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid certification.
Knowledge of Ofsted health and welfare standards and DfE medical guidance.
Enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to apply for one.
