Job description-
The
SAFE Officer (Safeguarding and Family Engagement Officer)
is responsible for ensuring the
safety, well-being, and protection of students
within the school. This includes implementing safeguarding policies, working with external agencies, supporting students with welfare concerns, and fostering strong relationships between the school and families to create a
safe and inclusive learning environment
.
Key Responsibilities:1. Safeguarding and Child Protection
Act as the
first point of contact
for safeguarding concerns and referrals.
Support the
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
in implementing child protection policies.
Monitor and respond to
safeguarding alerts
, ensuring timely intervention.
Maintain
accurate and confidential records
of safeguarding concerns and actions taken.
Work closely with
social services, police, and external safeguarding teams
to promote positive home-school relationships.
Support
attendance initiatives
to ensure students are in school and engaged in learning.
3. Health and Safety Compliance
Conduct
site risk assessments
and ensure school safety policies are followed.
Lead on
emergency procedures
, including fire drills and lockdown protocols.
Ensure staff are trained in
safeguarding and first aid requirements
.
Respond to and document any
incidents, accidents, or security concerns
on school premises.
4. Training and Staff Support
Deliver safeguarding and welfare training to school staff.
Advise staff on handling
student disclosures and welfare concerns
.
Promote a
culture of safeguarding awareness
across the school.
Person Specification:Essential Qualifications & Experience
Experience in
safeguarding, child protection, or pastoral care
(preferably in a school setting).
Knowledge of
safeguarding legislation
(e.g., KCSIE, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
Strong understanding of
family engagement and student welfare
.
Experience working with
external safeguarding agencies
(e.g., social services, police).
Ability to manage
confidential and sensitive information
.
First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable Skills & Attributes
Background in
education, social work, or youth work
.
Experience in
risk assessment and crisis management
.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a safeguarding team.
