Senior Site Manager
Site Manager - Horizons Independent School
Hours: 20 hours per week (7:30-9:30am and 2:00-4:00pm,
Monday-Friday term time plus some holiday cover as required)
Contract: Permanent, term time with some holiday cover
Location: Horizons Independent School
Responsible to: Headteacher
Salary: 22 per hour
Horizons Independent School is seeking a reliable, proactive Site Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will take pride in ensuring our school buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and welcoming for our pupils, staff, and visitors.
You will:
Open and close the school each day
Carry out minor repairs and oversee contractors
Help maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene
Take responsibility for security and compliance checks
We are looking for someone practical, trustworthy, and organised, with the flexibility to respond to the needs of a busy school. Previous site or caretaking experience is desirable but not essential - full training will be provided.

Site Manager
Purpose of the Role:
To ensure that the school site, buildings, and grounds are safe, secure, well-maintained, and provide a welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The Site Manager will play a key role in health and safety compliance, daily operations, and contributing to the smooth running of the school.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Site Security
Open and secure the school premises daily.
Ensure the site is safe for staff and pupils before the start of the school day including daily perimeter checks
Fire safety checks (recorded) and COSHH cupboard checks (recorded)
Act as keyholder, responding to call-outs and alarms when necessary (call out fee tbc); this includes meeting compliance partners throughout the school day
Maintenance and Repairs
Carry out minor repairs and maintenance (plumbing, joinery, painting, fixtures - skill-set to be determined) working closely with on-site repair team
Report and oversee contractors for specialist or major works
Maintain the school site in good order, ensuring high standards of presentation, supporting the cleaning of areas of high need where appropriate and supporting the handover of spaces between organizations (multi-site use)
Taking bins out
Health and Safety
Conduct daily and weekly health and safety checks as directed by our Premises Officer (on-site one day a week in the first instance)
Ensure fire exits are clear, alarms are tested, and evacuation procedures are in place
Assist with risk assessments relating to site, equipment, and contractors working with our Health and Safety SLA Partners to maintain compliance
Monitor compliance with COSHH regulations for cleaning materials
Have a commitment to keeping up with training
Cleaning and Hygiene
Undertake cleaning of designated areas as required to maintain hygiene
Support cleaning staff in maintaining high standards
Be part of the wider team in ensure adequate stock of cleaning materials
Grounds and Environment
Maintain external areas, including litter collection, pathways, and minor grounds upkeep
Ensure safe access in poor weather (e.g., gritting, snow clearance) liaising closely with headteacher and Shaftes CEO
Compliance and Record Keeping
Maintain logs of site checks, contractor visits, and statutory testing
Assist in maintaining the asset register
Contribute to Section 175 safeguarding compliance regarding premises safety (training will be provided)
Other Duties
Support the Headteacher with premises-related planning and development
Undertake training as required
Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, reporting any concerns immediately
Person Specification
Essential:
Experience of site maintenance, caretaking, or a trade skill
Knowledge of health and safety and compliance requirements
Ability to work independently and manage workload
Flexibility to respond to emergencies
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Desirable:
Previous school site management experience
Health and Safety, COSHH, or First Aid training
Experience in liaising with contractors
Job Type: Part-time
