To help drive therapeutics discovery and characterisation we are seeking a candidate at Scientist level. They will have a key role in growing the phage display capability to derive antibody drug candidates for the pipeline. The role offers a great opportunity to learn about antibody discovery from an expert team and to develop technical expertise in the use of display technologies. This role will include day-to-day responsibility for general lab upkeep, equipment maintenance, maintaining reagent stocks and health and safety.
Responsibilities
Perform phage display selections to support drug discovery for future therapeutic projects
Perform sequence analysis and screening experiments on antibodies derived from phage display selections to identify leads
Maintain up to date knowledge in display technology and collaborate with fellow scientists in use of phage display
As required, assist with other types of biochemical assays, protein expression and purification and biophysical analysis techniques, such as surface plasmon resonance, as part of the downstream discovery cascade
Maintain laboratory equipment, reagent stocks, general lab cleanliness and smooth day-to-day running of the laboratory
Perform all work demonstrating due care and attention to all health and safety and COSHH regulations, and Human Tissue Act records where required
Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebook and electronic records
Communicate efficiently, interpret and summarise data for presentation to different audiences
Experience and Requirements
BSc or MSc degree in a relevant scientific subject (or industry equivalent experience)
Direct experience in phage or other display technology
Attention to detail, ability to follow protocols, quick learner
Hands on technical experience in performing diverse biochemical assays & techniques eg ELISA, immunoassays, magnetic enrichments, kinetic assays, homogenous assays
Experience with molecular biology techniques eg PCR, cloning, sequence analysis
An ability to work independently, developing, running and trouble-shooting new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
