Job Description

On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for a Section Planner for a 6 month contract based in Preston.

As a Section Planner, your main responsibilities will be to:



Plan and optimise all agreed work activities for the section. Accurately update systems, databases and records as required. Produce Safe System of Work plans. Submit green zone access and isolation requests. Produce draft quarterly plans. Manage weekly Plan-Do-Review meetings.

Essential:



Ability to produce comprehensive SWPs using the SSOWP system. Competence in using Ellipse (Network Rail's asset and work management system) to schedule, track, and manage maintenance tasks, resource allocation, and job costing. Knowledge of how to plan access to the railway infrastructure, including requesting and managing line blockages, possessions, and isolations in coordination with Route Control and Signallers. Strong communication skills to liaise with COSS/IWA, engineers, project managers, and operations teams to ensure clarity and safety in planned works. Ability to maintain accurate records of planning activities, SWPs, and Ellipse entries for audit purposes and continuous improvement reviews.
