Birmingham City University is seeking a dedicated and professional Security Supervisor to join our Estates and Facilities Security team. This key role supports the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality security services across the University's campuses.
As a Security Supervisor, you will lead a team of Security Officers, ensuring a professional, efficient, and approachable service is delivered to students, staff, and visitors. You will be responsible for supervising day-to-day operations, managing performance, and maintaining excellent standards of customer service. The role also involves responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, and supporting the Security Operations Manager, including deputising in their absence.
Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring, as far as reasonably practicable, the safety and security of all University users.
  • Acting as or overseeing first responders in emergency situations.
  • Supervising Security Officers and agency staff, providing guidance and performance management.
  • Addressing issues related to staff attendance, timekeeping, and conduct as required.
  • Delivering a courteous and professional front-line service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Conducting internal and external patrols to maintain campus safety and protect University property.
  • Managing access control, including building entry, ID checks, and car park access.
  • Operating and monitoring CCTV and other security systems.
  • Completing accurate records, reports, and statements in line with university policies and data protection requirements.
  • Managing locking and unlocking procedures, alarms, and key control systems.
  • Supporting emergency and evacuation procedures and liaising with emergency services as needed.
  • Handling challenging or sensitive situations with professionalism, impartiality, and respect.
This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment.
