Job Title: General Builder - Period & Restoration Projects

Location: Canterbury/Ashford/Tenterden/Rye

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled General Builder to join our family run, restoration & building company. The successful candidate will undertake a variety of construction, repair, and conservation works on period and listed buildings, ensuring that all work is carried out to the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship, and H&S standards.This role requires knowledge & experience of traditional building materials and methods, together with a professional approach to site management, time keeping and collaboration with other trades and conservation specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out general building and restoration works in accordance with customer requirements, project specifications and conservation principles.Undertake structural and non-structural repairs, including brickwork, stonework, plastering, rendering, and associated building tasks.Work with traditional materials such as lime mortar, lime plaster, and timber, ensuring sensitive replication of historic techniques.Assist in the dismantling, repair, and reinstatement of historic features and fabric.Work effectively with other trades, subcontractors, and site supervisors.Ensure that all work is completed within agreed timescales, budgets, and quality parameters.

Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment, complying fully with all health and safety regulations.

Essential Skills and Experience

Proven experience as a General Builder or skilled tradesperson, ideally within the heritage, restoration, or high-quality residential sectors.Demonstrable knowledge of traditional building methods and materials.Competence in a range of construction disciplines (e.g., masonry, plastering, rendering, basic carpentry, roofing).Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to superior workmanship.Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to various project sites.

Desirable Qualifications and Certifications

Experience working on listed or protected buildings.

Enthusiasm and willingness to develop specialist skills.

Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.

NVQ Level 2 or 3 / City & Guilds qualification in Construction or Heritage Skills (or equivalent).First Aid at Work or other relevant safety training.

Accreditation or training in lime work, stone repair, or traditional joinery would be advantageous.
