About the Role



Bhuku Ltd is recruiting a Self-Employment Tutor to deliver our Skills Ninja: Self Employment programme at HMP Stafford, a Category C prison. The programme supports individuals to explore self-employment and business start-up as a route into sustainable employment post-release.

You will deliver structured learning sessions to a small cohort of up to 5 learners. Each cohort runs for four weeks, with a fifth week allocated to follow-up, learner catch-ups, admin and preparation for the next cohort.

The programme is fully developed and ready to deliver. Content includes: business planning, understanding HMRC processes, budgeting, marketing essentials, and getting from business idea to launch.

Key Responsibilities



Deliver structured self-employment sessions using Bhuku's existing curriculum and resources. Support learners to create a basic business plan and understand sole trader registration requirements. Provide individual progression support during catch-ups and 1:1s. Maintain learner records and ensure accurate reporting to the prison. Liaise with the Learning & Skills team, Activities Department, and other prison stakeholders. Adhere to safeguarding, information security, confidentiality, and behaviour management procedures.

About You



Required:

Ability to pass enhanced prison vetting (security clearance). Confident communicator able to manage small group learning sessions. Good organisational skills and ability to work independently. Ability to build positive rapport with learners who may have diverse needs or limited confidence.
Desirable (not essential):

Experience delivering training, coaching, workshops, employability or business skills. Knowledge of business start-up processes (sole trader vs. limited company, HMRC registration, tax returns, budgeting). Experience supporting adult learners or working in education, third sector, or prison environments.
A formal teaching qualification is not required. Real-world experience in business or self-employment is valuable and will be considered.
