SEMH Teaching Assistant

Summary


A warm, inclusive school in the Kendal area is looking for a calm, resilient Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 and small?group support to a pupil with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will help the child feel safe, understood and ready to engage in learning, while working in a consistent, caring environment.

The Role


In this role you will:

Work 1:1 and with small groups to support a pupil with SEMH needs, helping them to access learning and build positive school experiences. Support the pupil in regulating emotions, managing transitions and forming constructive routines. Encourage communication, interaction with peers, and the development of self?confidence. Work closely with the class teacher, the SENCO and other practitioners to implement agreed strategies and behaviour plans. Contribute to monitoring and recording the pupil's progress, including social, emotional and academic milestones. Provide a steady, dependable presence that fosters trust and promotes the pupil's sense of belonging at school. Respond calmly and consistently to challenging behaviour, using clear boundaries, de?escalation and empathy.

The Ideal Person & Skills/Education Needed


We are looking for someone who:

Is patient, emotionally resilient and supportive--able to stay calm and positive under pressure. Has confidence working 1:1 with pupils and in small?group contexts, adapting to individual needs and changing situations. Builds trust with children by offering encouragement, clear boundaries and a nurturing presence. Has experience (or genuine interest in) supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs or additional needs. Communicates well with teachers, parents and multi?disciplinary professionals, and works effectively as part of a team. Holds (or is working towards) a relevant qualification such as a Teaching Assistant qualification, Level?2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning, or equivalent experience in education, care, youth work or social services. Desirable: Some familiarity with SEMH settings, trauma?informed practice or related support roles.

Working Hours


Monday to Friday, 8.30?am to 3.30?pm (term?time only)
Both full?time and part?time applicants will be considered.

If you take a temporary role with Sense?Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of?12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
