Profile

My daughter has complex health care needs and I am extremely passionate to ensure she receives the best support and quality of life.

I am implementing ABM NeuroMovement to help in her everyday life and my daughter currently has intensive 1:1 movement lessons with an experienced practitioner every weekend. The selected carer must be open and willing to educate themselves on this practice with books and online course material being made available.

It is most important to think about how to engage my daughter cognitively, emotionally and physically and place an emphasis on connecting with her as an individual and embracing her needs, rather than trying to 'fix' her or the symptoms/traits of her conditions.

I am particular in what works best for her and therefore the carer must be a team player and be willing to follow my lead as much as possible. That being said, I am very willing to hear advice or suggestions from an experienced carer, and encourage open and clear communication about her progress and her needs.

About my daughter:

She is a happy, sociable and endearing, who loves music (especially her piano), swimming and outdoor activities. She was born prematurely at 25 weeks and contracted meningitis at two days old, which led to a variety of complex health care needs. She has several additional needs as detailed above. My daughter is visually impaired (blind in her right eye and severely sight impaired in her left eye) so having someone engaging is especially important as you'll play an important role in bringing the world to her.

Due to her developmental delay, my daughter cannot walk, talk, roll or sit up independently. She has intermittent head control but is very determined to engage physically and works hard with her movement. Since 2017, she has been fed via a PEG tube and whilst she has oral tasters, all of her main nutrition comes from a blended diet which has been transitioned to a Ketogenic diet for her seizures. Despite her complex needs, with the right approach and support, she will come on leaps and bounds and is a very rewarding child to work/spend time with.

My daughter can be quite shy to begin with due to her visual impairment, however as she becomes familiar with new voices she really blossoms and opens up. She loves gentle touch; being handled with respect and being given time to respond to questions and activities without being rushed. She needs time to process and initiate tasks and activities. She enjoys having the freedom to move and doesn't like being constrained in equipment where possible.

She enjoys being read and sung to, engaging with musical toys and she enjoys new smells and new sensory experiences. She really likes the outdoors, especially going to the park and being pushed around in her wheelchair. It's important to note that my daughter must be fully supported in all of her favourite activities.

She currently attends a SEN school (Full time) called Linden Lodge in Southfields

Key areas for development and support are:

Improving self-awareness and understanding of the world around her (with the use of narration and other techniques)

Helping to improve her oral-feeding

Supporting and encouraging better sleep patterns

Developing her vision/visual ability

Medications:

For Seizures

: Levetiracetam, Sodium Valproate, Clobazam, Carbamazepine, Pyridoxin

For Sleep

: Melatonin

For Secretions

: Glycopyrronium, 3% hyper tonic saline

Prophylactic Antibiotics

: Azithromycin

Other

:

Ad hoc suctioning

Nebulisers / Chest physio

It is important that anyone looking after my daughter is very clear on and has excellent and up to date understanding about her conditions and pathways, and should be interested to look at options that may help with her progress.

I am looking for a physically capable, dynamic, proactive and caring Special Educational Needs Nanny/carer.

Main Duties include

:

Help with overall development by following the '9 Essentials' of the Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement

Morning routine including breakfast time, reading stories, singing songs, prepping school bag for Monday and food syringes

Engaging my daughter in her preferred activities and coming up with ideas for new ones
