We are currently recruiting a compassionate and committed
SEN Support Worker
to work within specialist schools in
Sunderland
that cater for children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and complex behavioural needs. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with special educational needs (SEN).
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEN, both in and out of the classroom
Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning materials as needed
Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans
Help manage challenging behaviour in a safe and supportive manner
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to support pupil development
Promote social and emotional well-being through positive interaction and encouragement
Assist with personal care tasks if required (depending on the setting and pupils' needs)
Maintain accurate records of student progress and incidents, reporting to relevant staff as needed
Essential Requirements
Experience working with children or young people with SEN, preferably in a school or care setting
Strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Conditions, SEMH, or other complex needs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
A calm, resilient, and patient approach to supporting challenging behaviour
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
Desirable Qualifications/Skills
Relevant SEN training or qualifications (e.g., Team Teach, Autism Awareness, Makaton)
Experience in a specialist SEN school setting
First Aid or Safeguarding certification
Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care, Supporting Teaching and Learning, or similar
