Job Description

We are looking for a proactive, experienced and dedicated teaching assistant to assist and support the teaching of young adults (14-25 years) with special educational and general learning needs, specifically providing support for learners with challenging behaviour and or physical disabilities.

Duties:



Support the SEN Teacher to provide education for young adults

Encouraging the inclusion of young adults with emotional and/or behaviour management techniques designed to develop the ability to behave appropriately.

Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards to young adults.

Modelling, within class, support strategies designed to encourage and develop appropriate behaviour in variety settings, i.e. with individuals and group/whole class settings.

Support any student's behaviour programme and or/ support whole school positive behaviour systems.

Attending relevant meetings and in-service training provided by the school.

Supervising students that have been isolated from other learners

Consulting with parents regarding student support matters and responding to incidents of challenging behaviour.

Personal responsibility to make a decision when to take action to restrain any student demonstrating behaviour deemed to be a threat to themselves or to others.

Assist in the completion of any completion reports that may occur due to student's behaviour

Provide personal care if required

Personal Specification:



Have experience of working with young and mature adults with special educational needs. Preferably teaching experience.

Experience in care setting

Have GCSE, 'O' Level or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English.

Have NVQ2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care (desirable)

Have knowledge and understanding of the different social, cultural and physical needs of special needs learners.

Have an interest in how special needs children and adults learn and behave.

Provide appropriate role models of behaviour both in the classroom and around school

Really care about students, particularly those who find learning and managing their difficult behaviour.

Knowledge of Makaton desirable

Knowledge of positive handling techniques desirable

Have an up to date clear DBS

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 25,000.00-28,000.00 per year

Special education: 2 years (preferred)
Work Location: In person
