Job Description

Main Purpose



To provide high-quality learning and care support to pupils with special educational needs

(SEN). This includes working closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver effective

activities and provide consistent support with routines, transitions, and behaviour

management, in line with the school's Islamic ethos and inclusive values.

Duties and Responsibilities



Supporting Pupils



? Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils, encouraging high self-esteem,

independence, and a love of learning

? Adapt communication and support strategies to meet the individual needs of pupils

? Provide support for pupils' social, emotional, and mental health, referring concerns

appropriately and sensitively

? Promote exemplary standards of behaviour, following the school's behaviour policy

and procedures on physical intervention if required

? Support the development and implementation of individual education and support

plans (IEPs) and EHCPs where relevant

? Offer pastoral care and emotional support in a way that reflects our school's caring,

faith-based approach

? Provide supervision and encouragement during breaks, prayers, and transitions as

needed

Teaching and Learning



? Assist in the planning and delivery of differentiated learning activities for individuals

and small groups, both in and out of the classroom

? Support the teaching of a broad, balanced curriculum with a focus on helping pupils

reach their full potential in all subjects

? Use ICT effectively to enhance learning experiences

? Observe, monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to class teachers

on achievement and any barriers to learning

? Support teachers in maintaining a safe, calm and orderly learning environment

? Supervise a class in the teacher's short-term absence if required

? Contribute positively to the school's ethos, aims and wider learning culture

Working with Staff, Parents/Carers and External Professionals



? Share relevant knowledge and observations with staff and appropriate external

professionals to support informed decisions about pupil provision

? Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/carers under the direction

of teachers

? Attend and contribute to meetings with staff, parents and carers, offering insight

into pupil progress and needs

? Work collaboratively with colleagues and professionals within and beyond the

school to provide holistic support for pupils

? Uphold and model the values of Al-Khair Secondary School in all interactions

Professional Development



? Reflect regularly on practice and engage in relevant professional development

opportunities

? Work with line managers to identify areas for growth and build on qualifications,

knowledge and skills needed for the role

? Participate fully in the school's appraisal and performance development processes

Safeguarding Responsibilities



? Follow the school's safeguarding and child protection policies and statutory

guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent)

? Prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all pupils in all aspects of the role

? Remain alert to safeguarding concerns and report them appropriately in line with

school policy

Job Specification



Criteria Essential Qualifications



Qualifications and training

GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4

(previously Grade C) in English and maths

Experience

Experience working with children/young people with SEN

Experience supporting learning in a school or similar

educational setting

Skills and Knowledge

Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills Strong

communication and active listening skills

Good organisational and teamwork skills

Understanding of how to adapt support to meet

individual needs Awareness of safeguarding principles

and procedures

Calm, flexible and resilient in high-pressure situations
