About the School


On behalf of a Primary school in an accessible suburb of Leeds, we are seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced

SEN Teaching Assistant

to join their Alternative Provision team. The school is well known for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral care, and commitment to supporting every learner to achieve their full potential.

The Role


This full-time position is offered on a fixed-term contract for one year, with an immediate start. The successful candidate will work closely with students who require additional support, providing tailored 1:1 assistance as well as leading small group interventions within the Alternative Provision setting.

The role requires someone who is adaptable, patient, and confident in supporting a diverse range of needs and abilities, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and specific learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities



Deliver targeted 1:1 support to students with a range of SEN. Plan and lead small group learning and engagement activities. Build trusting, supportive relationships with students to enhance their academic and emotional development. Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and external agencies to support the implementation of individual learning plans and EHCP targets. Help adapt and differentiate materials to meet varying student needs. Contribute to the creation of a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. Manage behaviour effectively, following the school's policies and individual behaviour support plans.

Person Specification



Previous experience working 1:1 and in small groups with young people with SEN. Strong understanding of different types of special educational needs and the ability to adapt approaches accordingly. Confident, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable learners. Good communication, teamwork, and organisational skills. Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or SEN-specific training (desirable but not essential). A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
