Job Title: Special Educational Needs Coordinator

Trident Alternative Provisions and Tuition Centres provide high-quality education and tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We work with students from a range of educational backgrounds -- including those in alternative provision, EHCP support, and mainstream schools -- offering small-group and 1:1 learning environments designed to build confidence, engagement, and progress.

Role Overview



The SENCO will play a key leadership role in ensuring the effective identification, support, and progress of learners with SEND. This person will oversee all SEND provision across our centres, working closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure every student receives the appropriate level of support to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities



o

Leadership & Coordination

o

Lead on the strategic development of the centre's SEND provision.

o

Ensure that the SEND Code of Practice (2015) is effectively implemented.

o

Oversee and maintain up-to-date SEND registers and student profiles.

o

Liaise with Local Authorities and external professionals (EPs, CAMHS, Social Services, etc.).

o

Assessment & Support

o

Identify students with special educational needs through observation, assessment, and referrals.

o

Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

o

Support teachers and LSAs in differentiating lessons to meet individual needs.

o

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and support strategies.

o

Training & Development

o

Deliver regular CPD and training sessions to staff on SEND best practices.

o

Promote inclusive teaching and positive behaviour strategies across the centre.

o

Parental & Multi-Agency Liaison

o

Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding their child's progress and support.

o

Coordinate meetings, reviews, and reports with external agencies and professionals.

o

Safeguarding

o

Uphold and promote safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.

Person Specification



Essential:



o

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

o

Experience supporting or coordinating SEND provision in a school or alternative provision setting.

o

Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and EHCP processes.

o

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

o

Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

Desirable:



o

National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.

o

Experience in alternative provision, PRUs, or independant settings.

o

Understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

Hours: Full-time or part-time considered

Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience
