: Liaison with teachers, support staff of the school, as well as Governors, Parents, Children, Advisers and other Professionals

You are required to actively promote the aims of the school as seen in the Mission Statement and to strengthen the Catholic ethos of St Antony's.

Main Purpose



Oversee a range of additional targeted teaching and support provision for children with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning; making best use of SEN and wider school resources.

Directly deliver high quality targeted teaching and support to children with additional needs and barriers to learning.

Work with the whole staff team to ensure that all aspects of teaching and learning at St Antony's are accessible to and meet the needs of children with additional needs or barriers to learning.

Develop links with the parents of children with additional needs and hard to reach families in the community and engage them in supporting the learning, progress and achievement of children at St Antonys's.

Support the headteacher in the strategic development of the school.

Main activities



The role will focus on children with the following additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning:-

Pupils on the School's Special Educational Needs Register and those pupils with specific learning
difficulties;

Pupils with identified behavioural problems; Pupils with English as an Additional Language, particularly where language is a barrier to learning

Core Duties



Those duties listed in the current Teachers' Pay and Conditions document.

1. Support the vision, ethos and policies of the School which secure effective teaching, successful learning and promote high levels of achievement and self-esteem for all pupils irrespective of background, ethnicity, gender or disability;
2. With the Senior Leadership Team be responsible for provision for children with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning ensuring that the pupil premium funding and other additional resource is used most effectively to support learning and achievement.
3. Establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and lead teachers and others on the staff team with a focus on inclusion.
4. Act as lead for children with Special Educational Needs including having a working knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice.
5. Raise standards of individual pupil achievement and ensure that good attainment is maintained;
6. Ensure the effective and proficient use of pupil data from a variety of sources, both internal and external, in the process of target setting;
7. Set targets for raising achievement among pupils with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning;
8. Set up systems for identifying, assessing and reviewing inclusion needs and maintain an up to date provision map;
9. Evaluate the effectiveness of provision for pupils with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning and advise the headteacher and governing body regarding the development of this provision;
10. Identify, adopt and monitor the most effective teaching approaches for those pupils with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning including intervention programmes where necessary;
11. Ensure all members of staff recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities to pupils with special educational needs or in vulnerable groups;
12. Provide training opportunities for teaching assistants and other teachers to learn about inclusion;
13. Support SLT(Senior leadership team) to keep a specific register of provision to all pupils identified for SEN plus FSM and the use of pupil premium funding and measure its impact;
14. Identify resources needed to meet the needs of pupils and advise the headteacher of priorities for expenditure

15. There will be an element of PPA cover and staff absence cover in classrooms as required

Leadership & Management

Lead a team of staff, managing human and other resources effectively to maximise learning, ensure quality and promote excellence.

In addition to the responsibilities of Class Teacher, as set out in the Class Teacher job description and the School Teachers Pay and Conditions document, the holder of this post is expected to carry out the professional duties of a TLR post holder with the responsibilities as set out in this job description and in accordance with school policies.

Management for Inclusion:

Deploy Support Staff as appropriate to impact on pupil learning;
1. Plan and monitor the delivery and evaluation of appropriate intervention groups;
2. Be a strong advocate for change and champion school improvement, particularly for children with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning;
3. Convey a positive "can do" attitude, motivate and inspire staff and present a 'united front' to secure successful outcomes of school initiatives;
4. Support the evaluation of the effectiveness of the School's policies and developments and analyse their impact on pupils who have additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning;
5. Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring pupils with special educational needs;
6. To assist SLT in ensuring effective communication and liaison

Supporting Parents:

1.Ensure that parents of children with additional needs, vulnerabilities or barriers to learning are well informed about the curriculum, teaching and learning, targets, individual pupils' progress and achievement; (Some work with parents may require time outside the normal school day).
2. Ensure every effort is made to develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents and the diverse multi-cultural community.
3. To contribute to the wider role of St Antony's by organising parenting classes, wider opportunities for families, helping families to overcome barriers to learning.
4. Develop strategies to build effective relationships with families and encourage parental
involvement in St Antony's and its activities.
5. Support parents and their children to ensure continual engagement with school and their learning.

PERSON SPECIFICATION



Educational Qualifications and Training


Essential
1. Qualified Teacher Status
2. Degree or equivalent
3. Have gained or a willingness to work towards the National Qualification for SENCOs

Desirable1. Evidence of further study/research

2. Designated safeguarding lead training(Level 3-Advanced level)

Experience

Essential

1. Varied experience and understanding of teaching and learning across the primary age
range
2. Successful experience in a middle or senior leader role in a primary school
3. Experience in Inclusion or SEND
4. Experience of data analysis
5. Experience of leading workshops, staff meetings and INSET.
6. Responsibility for developing, monitoring and evaluating an aspect of school provision
7. Experience of leading and managing people
8. Experience of contributing to self-evaluation and school

Desirable

1. Experience of teaching in more than one key stage
2. Experience of working in at least two schools
3. Experience of coaching and mentoring
4. Experience of leading training and other staff development activities, including appraisal
5. Experience of working with governors, parents and the wider community

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential

1. A proven record of teaching that has made a considerable impact on pupils' learning
2. Knowledge of relevant legislation - in particular of the SEN Code of Practice and Pupil
Premium, equal opportunities and disability discrimination legislation and how these apply to pupils with Statements/ Education Health Care Plans as well as those without
3. Knowledge of the range and type of interventions available and be able to apply these
appropriately in the context of the school's resources and the individual child
4. Sound understanding of assessment, recording and reporting of the Foundation Stage Profile
5. Understanding of strategies for school improvement
6. Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of current educational issues
7. Understanding of the distinctive nature of a Catholic primary school
8. A commitment to the knowledge and understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding
