Join a Specialist Autism & Communication School in Lewisham
We're seeking an experienced and compassionate
SEND Teaching Assistant
to support children aged 4-17 at a
specialist setting in Lewisham
. This school provides education for pupils with
complex social, communication, and interaction needs
, including autism and speech and language difficulties. Every pupil has an
EHCP
and receives tailored support in small, structured classes.
This is a long-term, full-time role supporting students 1:1 and in small groups with a focus on
consistency, communication, and structured routines
. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children who benefit from autism-specific strategies, even if not formally diagnosed.
Your Role
Support pupils aged 4-17 with autism, social communication needs, and/or speech and language challenges
Help implement communication systems (PECS, visual schedules, Makaton if applicable)
Provide 1:1 and small-group learning support in classroom and sensory environments
Assist in behaviour regulation using positive support strategies
Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff
Support students' personal development and social confidence
We're Looking For
Previous experience supporting pupils with autism, SLCN, or SEMH needs
Team Teach or de-escalation training is a bonus
Familiarity with communication aids and behaviour support techniques
A calm, grounded, and adaptable approach to challenging behaviours
Commitment to long-term support and contributing to a specialist learning community
