Companion Group is working on a stylised roguelike title for a first-party platform. We're looking for a Senior 2D Environment Concept Artist with a sharp eye for visual storytelling, a strong grasp of stylization, and a deep understanding of how concept art supports real-time production. You'll help define the world's tone through iconic characters, environments, and mood pieces.
Reporting to the Art Director, the ideal candidate is a visual designer and storyteller who can deliver best-in-class artwork to previsualise sets, develop environments, and support all visual development areas. You'll also assist the Art Director by providing feedback to the team when required.
Responsibilities
Create high-quality 2D concept art for environments, architecture, and set pieces in a heavily stylized world.
Translate narrative and gameplay needs into compelling visual spaces.
Collaborate with Art Director, concept and 3D teams to ensure visual consistency.
Contribute to worldbuilding and creative ideation in early-stage development.
Provide paint-overs and visual direction to support downstream production.
Iterate quickly based on feedback while maintaining visual quality and coherence.
Requirements
3+ years of experience as a concept artist in games or animation (with stylised portfolio)
Exceptional illustration and design skills, with a focus on environment design
Strong grasp of colour, composition, lighting, and atmosphere
Experience working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment
Proficient in Photoshop or equivalent 2D software
Comfortable working remotely with version control tools and feedback platforms (e.g., Miro, Frame.io)
Nice to Have
Experience with stylised IPs or animated properties.
Understanding of the Unreal Engine pipeline.
3D block-out/kitbash experience for ideation or presentation.
Love for games with strong artistic direction (e.g., Wayfinder, Borderlands, Ori)
