Job Description

The British Ironwork Centre is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to manage and oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong financial control across the business. This role is key to supporting informed decision-making and maintaining robust financial processes.

The Role

We're looking for a confident and hands-on finance professional who can take ownership of core accounting functions while working closely with internal teams and directors. You'll play a pivotal role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing transactions, and supporting the ongoing development of our finance systems and processes, using Xero as the primary accounting platform.

What You'll Be Doing

Managing day-to-day financial operations, including purchase and sales ledger activities within Xero Overseeing invoice processing, payments, and journals to ensure accuracy and timeliness Preparing and reviewing bank reconciliations and resolving discrepanciesLiaising with suppliers and internal departments to resolve billing, payment, and account queries Supporting month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations Maintaining accurate financial records in line with accounting standards and internal controlsAssisting with financial reporting, analysis, and ad hoc finance projectsIdentifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and efficiencies Providing guidance and support to junior finance team members where required

What You'll Bring

Proven experience in a senior or similar accounting role Strong working knowledge of

Xero

accounting software Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial controls High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong organisational and time management skills Confidence liaising with suppliers, colleagues, and senior management A proactive and professional approach, with the ability to work independently
