: St Asaph or Ilminster - Role will be split across G&H Ilminster (Somerset) and G&H Phoenix (Wales)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified accountant to work in a unique hybrid capacity across two companies within the G&H Group. This role will involve supporting key financial initiatives, including the
implementation of standard costing
in one entity, and ensuring standard costs are properly maintained and analysed with corrective actions for variances going forwards for the two entities. The successful candidate will also manage long term contract accounting under IFRS 15, assess R&D capitalisation under IAS38, work closely with operational, project management and engineering teams, and act as a technical accounting resource for both companies with a good working knowledge of both cost accounting and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Duties
Assist with the design, development and implementation of a robust standard costing system at G&H Phoenix:
o Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and finance teams to determine accurate and consistent cost standards.
o Ensure all cost elements (materials, labour, overheads) are correctly captured and allocated.
o Develop documentation, processes and training materials to support the adoption of standard costing.
Ensure standard costs are properly maintained and analysed, and corrective actions are proposed for variances identified.
Responsible for the long-term contract accounting in compliance with IFRS 15, including revenue recognition and cost allocation:
o Work closely with engineers and project managers in the St Asaph
Innovation Hub
, as well as purchasing and operations teams in
Ilminster
, to compile accurate
Estimates at Completion (EAC)
for ongoing contracts.
o Review overall contract margins and assess the financial performance of long-term projects.
o Prepare and maintain accurate
forecast revenue recognition figures
for each project.
o Provide
monthly revenue recognition numbers
and contract margin updates to the
Financial Controllers
.
Assess research and development activities undertaken to determine which costs meet the criteria for capitalisation under IAS38.
Provide technical accounting advice to financial controllers, ensuring compliance with IFRS.
Prepare technical position papers and assist in resolving complex accounting issues.
Support statutory reporting, audit processes, and month-end close activities.
Support the preparation and review of quotations for customers.
Support the process for physically verifying inventory.
RESPONSIBILITIES - G&H Finance Team member
As requested by Group Finance provide ad hoc support and share expertise as part of Group Finance projects. This will include:
o Supporting the annual reviews of other sites adherence to the G&H financial controls framework.
o Supporting projects to improve the efficient operation of Finance function activities.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience, ideally in a manufacturing, engineering, or project-based environment.
Proven track record in standard costing implementation and variance analysis.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, particularly IFRS 15 (long-term contract accounting) and IAS 38 (intangible asset capitalisation).
Experience in working with cross-functional technical teams on project costing and revenue recognition.
Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems (ideally Syspro).
