Senior Ai Engineer

Manchester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Recode the Future of Travel. Power Human Potential with AI.

At Travel Counsellors, we're redefining what it means to travel - with AI-driven experiences built around deep human connection. We've spent 30+ years empowering over 2,200 independent travel entrepreneurs across the globe. Now, with an award-winning culture and explosive digital growth, we're building the next-generation AI capabilities that will revolutionise our personal travel platform Phenix.

We're not here to follow trends. We're here to set them. This is your chance to be at the centre of something extraordinary - shaping how AI and software engineering converge to create magical, meaningful travel experiences.

Your Mission

Join our high-impact squad of engineers and AI innovators to architect, build, and evolve TC Co-Pilot - our intelligent assistant embedded deep within our tech ecosystem. This is a hands-on engineering role where your code directly amplifies the power of humans, helping our Travel Counsellors work smarter, faster, and more creatively than ever before.

You'll build AI into the heart of our customer journeys using large language models (LLMs), recommendation systems, voice interfaces, and generative tools - all grounded in scalable, production-ready code.

What You'll Be Doing

Engineer AI-first systems:

Bring LLMs, recommendation engines and natural language interfaces into our platform, from prototype to production.

Own key backend services:

Use .NET Core/C# to build scalable APIs and services that connect human intent with machine intelligence.

Build RAG-powered workflows

: Leverage retrieval-augmented generation, context-aware orchestration (MCP), and internal datasets to generate real-time, contextual insights.

Collaborate across disciplines:

Work hand-in-hand with product designers, data scientists, and our AI strategy leads to embed intelligent features into everyday user flows.

Stay ahead of the curve:

Keep a critical eye on emerging AI trends, applying what works, discarding the hype, and shaping the future of our AI stack.

Your Toolkit

We're looking for developers obsessed with applying AI in real-world products, not just training models in a vacuum.

Essentials:

Proven experience in .NET Core / C# and modern web frameworks like Angular / TypeScript Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Claude, Bedrock), LangChain, or RAG-based architectures Deep familiarity with API design, microservices, and cloud-first development (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Experience building systems with MongoDB, SQL, or vector databases like Pinecone or MongoDB Atlas Vector Search Solid engineering practices: TDD, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and secure deployment at scale

Bonus if you've explored:

Model Context Protocol (MCP) for orchestrating intelligent agents Conversational interfaces, voice AI, or semantic search Human-in-the-loop design and responsible AI principles MLOps or data pipeline tools for structured/unstructured data processing

What You Bring

A wealth of software engineering experience, with a strong backend focus Demonstrated AI/ML engineering chops - you're comfortable with model behaviour, prompting, and evaluating outcomes Problem-solver with the humility to learn fast and collaborate across functions Strong communicator who can make AI accessible and valuable to both tech and non-tech audiences Passion for building tools that empower real people, not just chasing algorithms
