About the role:


CRU Asset Analysts produce high quality data and related insight which our customers rely on to make operational, investment and strategic planning decisions. They produce particularly data-rich services, with this delivered through CRU's new Asset Platform, DataLab and API delivery channels. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Analyst to join this team and create high quality asset (individual mine, smelter, refinery or other primary production unit) costs, emissions and valuation data and analysis.




Effective and efficient workflow management (using technology solutions) including research, handling large amounts of data and sophisticated modelling of industrial processes, toward ensuring appropriate data quality for customers, is core to the role. As well as an analytical mindset, the successful individual will be fluent in English, with strong technical and written skills. Ideally the candidate have knowledge of the aluminium supply chain including bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting, casting and rolling.




As a Senior Analyst, they will also need to be highly capable and confident when speaking with external stakeholders to demonstrate the value of CRU asset data in meeting their use cases. Internally they must be able to work effectively and collaboratively in an international team of asset analysts, with Asset Data Product Management and Technology colleagues.




Key Responsibilities:


- Primary and secondary research into mine, refinery and primary metal production asset technical, operational, capital expenditure and ownership parameters


- Efficient creation of asset data that meets required quality and data governance standards


- Creation of data-driven insight into asset costs, emissions and valuations


- Direct customer engagement to understand their use cases and draw meaning from CRU asset data to meet them


- Understand potential customer use cases and demonstrate the value of CRU's asset data in those (e.g. in demonstrating CRU's asset services)


- Support content marketing and other work (e.g. social media profile) to grow CRU's premium reputation for asset data quality and insight


Essential Criteria

Qualifications:


A top degree (first or 2:1) or equivalent qualification from a top university, ideally in engineering or other related numerical discipline




Skills & Experience:


- Mining, steelmaking and smelting/refining operations, technologies and economics


- Industrial asset valuation


- Use cases for cost, emissions and valuation data and insight in industrial, financial or policymaking market sectors


- Demonstrable understanding of data quality dimensions as applied to asset data


- The operation of commodity markets, supply chains and industries within the economic and sustainability context


- Strong quantitative analysis or data/modelling background


- Working in an international team and in a matrixed organisational structure


- B2B subscription and data as a service business models


- A few years' experience in the aluminium or related metals industry will be beneficial


- Effective and efficient primary and secondary research, utilising technical, financial reports and a network of contacts at producing operations


- Use of data models and platforms, including managing large and multi-dimensional datasets


- Expert data reconciliation, model balancing and error trapping


- The ability to understand customer use cases and match with the subjects of data-driven asset analysis that is compelling and logical


- A confident and strong communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing), and build and maintain trusted and collaborative relationships at all levels


- Coaching and developing more junior colleagues


- Cross-department collaboration (e.g. with Sales/Marketing or Technology) and effective working in a matrix organisation with a high level of corporate awareness - ability to understand the wider business context and demonstrate a commitment to supporting cross-organisational activities


- The ability to work to tight deadlines, coordinating with inputs from and outputs to other teams


Desirable Criteria

- Further degree (Masters' degree) would be beneficial
