Please note this vacancy is only open to applicants who are currently employed as a member of police staff at one of the 5 North West forces Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire and Merseyside

Established in April 2007, CTPNW exists as one of five Counter Terrorism Units (CTU\'s) within a National Counter Terrorism Policing (NCTP) framework, designed to strengthen the UK\'s response to the threat from terrorism. The threat we face, not just here in the NW but across the UK, is diverse and manifests itself in different forms, from International to Northern Ireland-related Terrorism and, increasingly, Domestic and Far Right Extremism.

In April 2018, the North West Counter Terrorism Unit (NWCTU) became Counter Terrorism Police North West (CTPNW), reflecting a formal collaboration between the five NW police forces. This followed a review undertaken in 2015 of how the Special Branch operate. As a result, changes have been actioned to streamline processes across the NW region to ensure they are consistent, maximise opportunities and deliver unified working.

The Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs) provide counter terrorism awareness training to the public as well as working closely with businesses, representatives of trade organisations, professional bodies and the community, making sure their protective security measures and plans are kept up to date with the latest counter-terrorism security advice.

Job Purpose

The Senior Analyst manages an analytical team and manages a specific area of business within the analytical function to ensure delivery against the vision, objectives and organisational plans, ensuring national intelligence and analytical standards are achieved.

Knowledge & Experience

Grade J

Educated to Level 6 e.g. a degree with or without honours OR equivalent experience

Systems thinking training (or equivalent)

Is willing to complete the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme Portfolio.

Training skills or ability to facilitate learning.

Attended and successfully completed relevant analytical training.

Worked as a crime / intelligence analyst in a law enforcement organisation and has experience of producing a range of intelligence / analytical products.

Experience of advising and liaising with all levels of personnel on the implementation of policy and procedure.

Experience in managing/supervising staff.

Carried out performance reviews of intelligence analysts / intelligence researchers.

Successfully delegated work to others and supervised the work of teams and individuals.

Experience of partnership working.

Reviewed and identified improvements to analytical methodology.

Provided specialist opinion, advice, knowledge and interpretations.

Knowledge and understanding of information sources and data sets.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of training and experience in a practical training environment.

Knowledge of all relevant legislation including; Data Protection Act, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and Human Rights Act.

Ability to use and assess computer software applications relating to the charting and analysis of intelligence in a manner that enhances analysis.

Able to demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving and the production of good quality intelligence products.

Ability to understand the role of the analytical function within the wider intelligence system and determine how the partial / complete system can be reviewed, realigned or restructured to ensure a maximum return on investment

Prepared to maintain standards of professional practice and to keep abreast of changes in legislation, policies, and procedures within the police and intelligence environment.

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes.

Willing to travel to locations both within and outside the GMP area.

Has achieved a good attendance record.

This is a designated post under the Force Vetting Strategy and the post will therefore attract an enhanced level of vetting.

Grade K as above with the below additional requirements

Attended the relevant management training courses.

Has completed the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme Portfolio.
