Brief Description





As a Senior Asset Engineer, you will lead the determination and development of signalling engineering requirements that support renewal, refurbishment, and enhancement investments. You will be responsible for producing detailed project specifications and acceptance criteria, ensuring all signalling works meet the required scope, quality standards, and align with Network Rail's asset policies.


Working within the Central Route signalling PRE team you will work closely with engineers from all asset types in support of the entire portfolio of works across the route.


You will be working with a wide variety of stakeholders, both within Network Rail and externally and be playing a key role in the maintenance and enhancement of the railway network throughout the Central route, the heart of Britain's rail network.

About the role (External)



What will you be doing?





You will lead the development and delivery of renewal, refurbishment, and enhancement strategies across our Signalling portfolio. You'll play a key role in shaping route strategies, managing prioritised workbanks and ensuring projects are delivered to specification, on time, and in alignment with Network Rail's asset policies.


In this role, you'll oversee the specification and acceptance of engineering works, support project delivery teams post-handover, and ensure all changes in scope are agreed and documented. You'll also provide expert input into enhancement projects, contribute to national standards, and escalate issues of national significance.


You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate asset records, conducting condition inspections, and participating in engineering verification and incident investigations. Your insights will directly inform asset management plans and help ensure our infrastructure remains safe, reliable, and future-ready.

What we're looking for



In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:



Incorporated Engineer Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent Membership of relevant professional institution Substantial [Signalling] engineering experience, particularly related to renewals and enhancements Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales An understanding of policy and technical, safety and performance standards relating to signal engineering Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain

It would be desirable for you to have:



Chartered Engineer An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques Knowledge of investment processes and procedures, including relevant computer systems Experience in the integration of complex engineering systems Knowledge of project management techniques

Salary:

Band 3C, starting from 55,596 raising to 65,966 per annum. Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.
