About the role




National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK's transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC interconnectors that connect the UK's energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK. As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we're working on developing new projects in order to ensure that we are able to meet the UK's future demands for greener energy solutions.


We are currently recruiting for a

Senior Asset Engineer (Power Electronics)

within our UJV Operations Team.


The UJV Operations team are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operational running of a portfolio of interconnectors including NSL, IFA1, IFA2 and Viking Link. As a Senior Asset Engineer, you will have a critical role ensuring that our interconnector assets maintain the highest level of operational performance.


The role will be a hybrid role based from our warwick office with an expectation of 3 days a week in the office and the rest from home.


Please note you must have a full UK driving licence as travel to different interconnectors sites may be expected.

What you'll do



Provision of technical and asset management leadership and subject matter expertise in specified HVDC asset families. Support in developing and implementing strategies for the management of specified assets within our HVDC converter stations. Development of the technical policies, specifications and strategy applicable to specified assets within our HVDC converter stations. Support site teams in the identification, triaging and initiation of appropriate intervention strategies as well as identifying innovation opportunities. Provide engineering support to site teams as requested, including supporting the recovery from asset incidents and failures. Support in the scoping, development and execution of projects within our HVDC converter stations. Support the asset health review of specified assets within our HVDC converter stations, including completion of periodic audits of asset health reviews in line with policy. Analyse and report on asset performance data emanating from asset health reviews. Make asset management decisions based on risk profiles and asset health Support IMS / Asset failure incident investigations as required relating to specified asset families within our HVDC converter stations and associated infrastructure. Participate in supplier engagement and innovation projects for evaluation of new technologies for use in HVDC applications. Provide support during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Commissioning of specified assets within our HVDC converter stations.

What you'll need



Ability to work to challenging deadlines Ability to problem solve in a team and make decisions Good knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management. Good technical understanding of HVDC converter stations and their constituent technologies. Able to communicate issues associated within area of expertise in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing Suitable technical / professional qualifications achieved through Degree or HND equivalent and on job professional experience. Environmental knowledge and understanding in respect of day-to-day duties. Member of a relevant professional institution or experience to apply for registration and membership or equivalent Health and Safety Qualification: IOSH or NEBOSH (or equivalent) Educated to a minimum of HNC in an appropriate Engineering (or related) discipline or NVQ in an Electrical Disciple or an equivalent recognised apprenticeship Member of CIGRE / HVDC / HV working groups Incorporated / Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration. Demonstrable knowledge of strategy, policy and procedures development and implementation. Good stakeholder management, influence & engagement skills Experience managing and overseeing contractor and in-house team performance including safety, health, environment & quality when carrying out work Experience of working and making critical business and operational decisions with different priorities Good understanding of NGV UJV Interconnectors regulatory requirements Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

A competitive salary between

54,090 - 68,000 per annum

- dependent on capability.
