Position: Assistant Greenkeeper

Gerrards Cross Golf Club is one of the most attractive courses in South Buckinghamshire, with a full membership. We have a great team which we are looking to expand and would like to recruit an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to join us.

As the Assistant Greenkeeper you will be responsible for producing excellent standards and the highest quality of work. You will undertake general course maintenance on a daily basis under the management of the Course Manager to ensure that the site is well maintained to the highest standard throughout the year. The winter months consist of renovation works, construction and continual maintenance of the playing surfaces.

We provide excellent learning and development opportunities at the club, so whilst the following qualifications/ knowledge are advantageous, they are not essential:

NVQ 2/3 Sports turf

PA1 PA2 PA6 Spraying certificates

CS30/ CS31 Chainsaw courses

360 Excavator certificate

Irrigation system repair and maintenance

Construction experience

This post carries a salary in line with CGCS recommendations, with weekday and weekend overtime paid at 1 3/4 time and enrollment onto the club pension scheme. Uniform & BIGGA membership are included. Part of the Club's ethos is to invest in the team and continued career development and training are encouraged and provided.

Responsibilities



To use machinery and equipment as instructed by the Course Manager in the maintenance of the golf course and surrounding land. You must make sure you are fully aware of all health & safety regulations and risk assessments on all machinery. You will be given adequate training for this but you must ensure that you understand how to operate all the machines and equipment you use. You will be expected to attend training and other courses which will be usually in normal working hours at the expense of the club.

Duties



Your duties will be fully explained by your Course Manager but it is important not to undertake any task unless you feel competent to do so. Examples of your duties are:

Monitor and Maintain health, safety and security in the workplace Responding to emergencies Maintain good standards of health and safety for self and others Switching and brushing Mowing banks Mowing rough Mowing semi rough Mowing surrounds and approaches Mowing tees Mowing greens Mowing fairways Scarifying/verticutting turf Aerating turf Applying nutrition Applying top dressing Repairing divots Irrigating turf Identifying and controlling weeds Identifying and controlling pests Identifying and control of turf diseases and disorders Preparing ground to establish turf Establishing turf Identifying grasses on the golf course Marking of hazards, out of bounds and ground under repair Moving tee markers Maintaining bunkers Maintaining golf course furniture Changing holes Rolling turf Driving a tractor with implements Undertaking routine machine maintenance Preparing machinery for use Preparing machinery for storage Measuring green speed and interpreting the results The rules of golf relating to golf course maintenance Preparing ground to establish plants on the golf course Establishing plants on the golf course Maintaining trees and shrubs on the golf course Identifying plants on the golf course Communicating effectively Dealing with disagreements/conflict Keeping management informed Understanding their roles and responsibilities

Targets



Along with all the staff you will be expected after training to carry out the tasks given to you with proficiency and your attitude in this direction will be noted by your Course Manager. Annual salary reviews and any bonus paid are taken into account by an annual assessment of your ability.

Physical Requirements



The work has a very high physical requirement. Stamina and good health are essential.

Conditions



You must at times wear the protective clothing and footwear provided to carry out certain jobs. You must not handle any chemical or machine which requires the appropriate certificates until you have acquired them.

All work should be carried out in accordance with the Greenkeepers Code of Practice, the Greenkeepers Code of Ethics, which can be found in the Greenkeepers Training Committee Training Manual, the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Golf Club's Health and Safety Policy.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 25,000.00-33,000.00 per year
