Senior Associate (5 8 Years Pqe)

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

What you\'ll do

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Senior Associate (ideally with 5-8 years PQE) to join our busy Construction and Infrastructure Team in the London Office.

You will work closely with and report directly to the Partner who heads up the London Construction Team, undertaking wholly non-contentious construction work for major UK projects, both nationally and internationally. Clients include property investors, institutional clients, banks, contractors and consultants as well as housing providers, local authorities and other public sector bodies. You will be involved in a wide range of projects across a number of sectors including residential, commercial, hotels and leisure, and healthcare sectors.

You will be involved in the drafting and negotiation of major strategic and operational construction contracts, including:

  • advising on standard JCT, NEC, partnering and alliancing contracts
  • international forms of contract including FIDIC and bespoke construction contracts
  • professional team appointments
  • collateral warranties, agreements for lease, development agreements
  • construction related elements of funding agreements and joint ventures
  • drafting and reviewing parent company guarantees
  • advance payment and performance bonds
  • framework agreements, consortium agreements, extensive and short form letters of intent
  • specialist sub-contracts
As such, you will need to be able to work collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines including Real Estate, Banking and Company Commercial, in order to ensure that each client receives an exemplary service.

We expect you to have a high level of competence in dealing with construction transactions and be enthusiastic to expand your skills and knowledge within a supportive and experienced team. We pride ourselves on our ability to develop our people, and as such, you will be responsible for dealing with complex high quality, high value work and will be afforded high levels of responsibility from the outset.

Who you are

You will have proven technical and organisational skills and be able to work collaboratively within a growing team. You will be accustomed to and enjoy the challenges of working under pressure to meet deadlines and already have a firm grounding in transactional construction practice.

With an eye for detail, you are meticulous, attentive and thorough in your work, ideally having already assisted Partners and senior lawyers in larger or more complex transactions in your current role, as well as advising clients directly on more straightforward matters.

You will have wide experience in particular of the NEC and JCT suite of contracts, as well as industry standard forms of professional appointments. In addition, you will have gained some experience in acting for funders and advising on the necessary lending and security requirements for construction, engineering and infrastructure projects.

Our relationship with our clients is paramount. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to build strong and lasting relationships with clients and show a genuine commitment to their business needs. Being self-motivated and ambitious, you will be keen to develop your specialist construction law knowledge and will possess the drive to help us continue to grow and develop our business. In this dynamic market, clients will be looking to you to be up to date regarding the latest policy and legal developments affecting the sector and, as such, you will need to demonstrate a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the sector and its wider implications for our clients. In return, we will support your professional development through regular training and will help you to grow your professional networks and maximise business development opportunities through access to relevant events and conferences, enhancing your knowledge and credibility across the sector.
