Senior Auditor

Huntingdon, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About the role

Cambridgeshire County Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Internal Audit & Risk Management team as a Senior Auditor. This is advertised as a full-time role (37 hours per week) with flexible working and the opportunity to work from home several days a week, but we would also consider requests for part-time working for the right candidate.

Senior Auditors undertake the planning and delivery of a variety of internal audit reviews of areas of Cambridgeshire County Council's services, policies and procedures. Through their programme of work, Senior Auditors challenge existing processes, identifying inefficiency, waste or fraud, and look for innovative and creative ways to improve the way the Council works.

This is a great opportunity to develop your career in local government, within a forward-thinking and inventive Internal Audit team, working within an innovative and supportive County Council. You will take responsibility for reviewing and evaluating a wide range of organisational functions and services including: finance; social care; major infrastructure projects; high-value contracts; and complex partnership and joint working arrangements including the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and NHS partners. The Internal Audit team also provides advice and consultancy services across the Council, with the aim of adding value and improving organisational governance, risk management and control. At Cambridgeshire County Council, Internal Audit has a pivotal role in helping the organisation manage risks and is a positive catalyst for change.

The team is based at our newly constructed civic headquarters at New Shire Hall in Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon, and operates a hybrid/flexible working policy. There is the opportunity to work remotely as well as from our central base at New Shire Hall, and some travel is likely to be required to other Cambridgeshire offices and schools.

For enquiries about this post, please contact Mairead Claydon, Head of Internal Audit & Risk Management, at: mairead.claydon@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Auditor, you will have responsibility for managing delivery of your own varied portfolio of work, which may also include fraud investigations and risk management in addition to internal audit work. Our supportive team environment will ensure that you can develop your skills across all areas of audit, through working closely with experienced colleagues.

Your work will provide assurance on the effectiveness of the organisation's risk management, governance, policy and internal control processes, and you will work with audit clients to agree far-reaching improvements and innovations based on your own ideas and recommendations.

About you

Successful applicants will be passionate about improving the public sector. They will be team players and great communicators, with the desire to think innovatively and strategically about how to improve the way systems and services work, challenge current processes, and work closely with senior management and key stakeholders across the organisation. Previous experience in Internal Audit or finance is desirable but not essential, and we look forward to receiving applications from individuals with a range of transferable skills.

Successful candidates will either already be working towards a recognised professional qualification such as CCAB or IIA, or will be willing and able to commit to studying towards a qualification. The Council will fund and support study towards a suitable qualification (such as Certified Internal Auditor), by agreement.

Please note: Applicants are requested to submit a C.V. and a supporting statement. When writing the personal statement, you should refer to the Person Specification and give specific examples to demonstrate how you meet the criteria.

Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor candidates who do not have the right to work in the UK for this role, so please ensure you have the right to work before applying.
