About the Role
We are an established and growing accountancy practice seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to join our team on a full-time basis.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' experience working in a practice environment, with strong technical skills in bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, payroll, and management reporting. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients across various sectors, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with HMRC requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a range of clients across multiple industries.
Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
Process and reconcile CIS returns for subcontractors and contractors, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
Manage payroll processing for multiple clients, including RTI submissions and pension contributions.
Maintain accurate financial records, including bank reconciliations, journal postings, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepare management accounts and assist in year-end accounts preparation.
Communicate effectively with clients to resolve queries and provide financial insights.
Support the practice's senior accountants with ad hoc financial tasks and reporting.
Assist in implementing and maintaining efficient systems and processes within Xero and other accounting platforms.

Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
Minimum 3 years' experience in a bookkeeping role within an accountancy practice.
Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software.
Excellent Excel skills (formulas, reconciliations, data manipulation, reporting).
Sound understanding of bookkeeping principles, VAT, CIS, and payroll processes.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple client portfolios effectively.
Confident communicator with excellent client service skills.
Organised, reliable, and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable:
A recognised qualification such as AAT Level 3 or above, or equivalent bookkeeping qualification (or working towards one).
Experience with additional software such as Dext, Hubdoc, or QuickBooks.
Previous experience reviewing junior team members' work or providing mentoring/support.
