As our UK team grows, we're looking for an experienced and detail-orientated Senior Bookkeeper, who is eager to contribute to the business' success in ensuring strong financial controls.
The Role
As a senior bookkeeper, you will play a key role in delivering high quality accounting support, for distribution of products purchased through suppliers, as well as for a UK-based food production facility. You will be required to oversee a part-time bookkeeper and will report to the group's Financial Director. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, confident in managing complex accounts, and experienced in UK bookkeeping and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record-Keeping & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with UK accounting standards.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end management accounts.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, supplier statements, and control accounts.
Manage accruals, prepayments and journal postings.
Invoicing:
Prepare, issue and capture customer invoices as needed based on consultation with logistics teams and latest shipping advice.
Capture supplier bills and balance against outgoing stock invoices.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Oversee the full purchase ledger and sales ledger functions.
Monitor aged debtors and creditors, ensuring timely payments and collections.
Liaise with, and assist, customers and suppliers with accounting related queries.
Ensure sales invoicing and creditor schedules are accurate, reconciled and up to date.
Payroll & Compliance
Oversee and process payroll, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.
Administer pension contributions, benefits and statutory deductions.
Prepare and submit VAT returns and other statutory filings.
Cashflow & budgeting:
Prepare and maintain cashflow forecasts.
Assist with annual budgets and financial planning.
Advise management on cost control and efficiency improvements.
System & Process Improvement:
Implement and maintain accounting software (Xero & Syspro essential).
Develop and refine internal financial controls and processes.
Train and supervise junior bookkeeping or financing staff.
Liaison & Support:
Act as the main point of contact for external accountants, auditors and HMRC.
Support management with ad hoc financial analysis and decision-making.
Ensure compliance with GDPR and company financial policies.
Manage ad hoc administrative and office tasks.
Candidate Requirements:
Proven experience as a senior bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role.
Strong working knowledge of UK accounting principles and HMRC compliance.
Proficiency in accounting software (Xero and Syspro essential).
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
