Summary
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Senior Bookkeeper / Accountant to join our team on a part-time basis. The role involves managing the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions for a portfolio of approximately 10 clients, ensuring accurate financial records are maintained, and accounts are prepared to Trial balance stage.
The role will be office-based in Hatfield initially. Subject to performance and business needs, remote or hybrid working may be considered following successful completion of the probation period. Self-employed individuals will also be considered for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Processing purchase invoices in Xero and QuickBooks
Ensuring costs are allocated to the correct nominal ledger accounts
Day-to-day management of supplier records and purchase ledgers
Completing monthly supplier statement reconciliations
Preparing fortnightly supplier payment runs for approval
Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of approximately 10 clients
Preparing accounts to Trial balance stage
Managing payroll processes or acting as Payroll Manager where required
Submitting PAYE and RTI returns and resolving payroll queries
Posting and reconciling payroll journals
Using Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, schedules, and reporting
Using Microsoft Word for client documentation, including mail merge
Working independently, managing workload and meeting deadlines
Skills and Experience Required
Proven experience in a senior bookkeeping or accounting role
Strong working knowledge of Xero
Working knowledge of QuickBooks
Ability to prepare accounts to Trial balance stage
Experience running payroll independently or acting in a Payroll Manager capacity
Good understanding of UK PAYE, NIC, and RTI requirements
Strong Excel skills (formulas, reconciliations, data handling)
Competent use of Microsoft Word, including mail merge
Experience managing multiple clients or entities
High level of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail
Ability to work under own initiative with minimal supervision
Desirable
AAT qualification or equivalent practical experience
Experience working in an accountancy practice or outsourced finance role
Knowledge of the construction and/or hospitality sectors
Understanding of CIS taxation, including CIS deductions and reporting
Probation Period
This role is subject to a three-month probationary period, during which performance, suitability, and working arrangements will be reviewed. Remote or hybrid working will be considered following successful completion of probation.
