We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Building Control Surveyor to join North Yorkshire Councils Building Control team you will step into a pivotal role, shaping the future of building control in North Yorkshire.

What You'll Do





As a Senior Building Control Surveyor, you'll take a leadership role in delivering high-quality, regulation-compliant developments. You'll:


Manage complex Building Regulation applications under the Building Act 1984, ensuring compliance across safety, sustainability, and accessibility standards. Oversee investigations into dangerous structures and demolition notifications, ensuring public safety. Support and lead enforcement actions to uphold the Council's statutory responsibilities. Contribute to mentoring and development of junior surveyors and help shape service delivery as we continue to modernise. Represent the service professionally with developers, architects, and residents, building trust and adding value.




Whether you're already Class 2 registered with the Building Safety Regulator, or are actively working towards it, we want to hear from you.


What You'll Bring




In-depth technical knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation. Confidence in managing higher-risk, complex developments and making informed, balanced decisions. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear technical advice to a wide range of stakeholders. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload with autonomy. A commitment to continuous improvement, customer service, and professional development.

The basic salary for the post is from 42,839 - 47,181 plus a market supplement of 3,600 per annum, providing an annual salary package of up to 50,781.


For the right candidate, a recruitment welcome payment of up to 10% of starting salary may be payable as a one-off welcome payment.
