Description





The Senior Engineer - Chassis role is responsible for the engineering, program management, development & sign-off & certification of cutting-edge chassis components & systems within a program and provides a very high level of technical leadership across all vehicle projects. This job description is in conjunction with the engineer's skills matrix.###

Key Responsibilities





Lead and manage the engineering, design and development of chassis systems, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and aesthetic standards within a vehicle program. Components and Systems including but not limited to Suspension System, Brakes System, Steering System, Pedal Box System & Wheels & Tyres. Responsible for the management of the BoM structure, mass, design and release timing, technical specifications, DFMEA, DVP inputs, ETRS. Collate input from the wider function group and present metrics/KPI as required by the Principal Engineer/FG Lead and the program management Operates independently w/r to engineering and project management topics within the program, acting cross functionally. Takes direction from the function group lead where necessary. Provide technical expertise and guidance to multidisciplinary teams throughout the product development lifecycle for their assemblies & systems. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering innovation and excellence. Lead internal stakeholders and external partners to define design requirements, specifications, and program deliverables for their assemblies & systems. Strategic competence regarding component R&D and component application on future programs Using vehicle & system requirements cascaded from the Principal Engineer (FG Lead), define the requirements for assemblies and components for the program. Write attribute summaries and technical specifications for each system. Lead feasibility studies and risk assessments to inform design decisions and mitigate potential issues. Working closely with suppliers carry out design for manufacture studies that allow the final part to achieve program requirements. Carry out risk assessments and FMEA during the earliest conceptual stages of design to identify risks and help eliminate or reduce failures. Using the attribute requirements and output of FMEA create DVP to ensure the durability, reliability, and functionality of powertrain components for the program. Liaise with the development teams to ensure the test & validation will be carried out appropriately. Responsible for the delivery of components and systems for the program. Taking project direction the Principal/FG Lead as necessary. Create and maintain working level plans, that are communicated with the design team and the project, that manage the delivery of powertrain systems to program timing requirements. Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including other function groups design/styling, attributes, quality, development, purchasing and manufacturing to ensure seamless integration of powertrain systems into the program. Create and maintain strong working relationships with supplier/partners to deliver black box and grey box systems, considering performance, mass, certification/compliance, aesthetics and sustainability. Propose continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes, methodologies, and tools. Create a culture of responsibility, accountability within the program engineering team and promote the function group as a collaboration between engineers, SQE and purchasing.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise





Proven experience in the design and engineering of high-performance Chassis Components Bachelor's/master's degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or similar Proven experience as a Senior Engineer with a focus on chassis design and project engineering, preferably in the Automotive, Motorsport or Aerospace industries. In-depth knowledge of chassis design, development, and optimization, with hands-on experience in relevant engineering tools and software. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of successfully leading engineering teams. A creative thinker with a passion for pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities. Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes. Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients. Must be a team player.
