We are seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join an engineering design team supporting civil and structural design for new and existing substation projects planned for 2025/26. The role involves producing detailed civil and structural drawings, calculations, and reports, covering survey specifications, concept and detailed design, and approved-for-construction documentation. The successful candidate will work primarily in London (Elephant and Castle) delivering design packages independently and liaising with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, quantity surveyors, CAD technicians, suppliers, and clients.


Key responsibilities include producing designs for steel frames, reinforced concrete, cable routes, supporting structures, fence systems, secondary oil containment, building services, and drainage within substation compounds. The role requires interpreting geotechnical reports, resolving civil engineering issues, and ensuring compliance with substation standards and policies. The candidate will manage and communicate work packages for the CAD team, review designs from colleagues and external consultants, and be responsible for approving and signing off designs and reports.


Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. The role demands adherence to all Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental requirements, promoting safe working methods and creating a safe environment for all staff and contractors.

Proven experience producing civil and structural designs for substation projects in England Chartered Engineer or near chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers Strong knowledge of AutoCAD; experience with Revit and Robot is beneficial Proficient in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Ability to interpret and review geotechnical reports Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to work independently and unsupervised, setting own targets Experience managing and communicating work packages to CAD teams Sound understanding of substation standards and policies Ability to liaise confidently with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams
