Applications are invited from medicine staff-in-training (core level training or above) for a full-time research fellow post in infectious diseases. The main role of the fellow will be to support our expanding portfolio of clinical trials.
Applicants must demonstrate initiative, independence and an aptitude for multi-disciplinary working. A commitment to a research-active career in infectious diseases is desirable. All applicants will be expected to join the NIHR Associate Principal Investigator Scheme .
The post will commence on 2 nd February 2026 and be for one year in the first instance. However, a longer period may be negotiable for applicants who are interested in pursuing a part-time higher research degree (MD) at Cardiff University.
This is a full-time research post. No clinical commitments, aside from clinical trial work, will be outlined in this job description. Please note that clinical duties undertaken should be agreed with your research supervisor and not be outside the scope of your clinical competence and grade of training.
RESEARCH - successful candidates will join an enthusiastic and dynamic research team comprising of clinicians, specialty registrars and clinical research specialist nurses with ongoing commercial and non-commercial research projects. Successful candidates will be expected to lead the day-to-day running of the ID trial portfolio including recruitment and data collection for ongoing Infectious Diseases research studies. They may also be asked to support/provide cover for other studies outside of the ID specialty.
CLINICAL RESEARCH FACILITY (CRF) - successful candidates will provide clinical cover for any research studies pertaining to their subspecialty that involve the patient clinical trial journey taking them via the CRF. This will include attending inpatient and outpatient areas.
Candidates must be GCP (Good Clinical Practice) trained.
CARDIFF & VALE RESEARCH FELLOW PROGRAMME - all successful candidates will automatically become part of the Research Fellow Programme in Cardiff & Vale. All applicants will be expected to join the NIHR Associate Principal Investigator Scheme.
