Senior Cloud Engineer

, you'll take a leading role in architecting, building, and delivering cutting-edge, platform-agnostic solutions that thrive in hybrid cloud environments.

You'll be driving the adoption of

cloud-native principles

to ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and resilient--while helping to integrate diverse datasets, platforms, and tools into a seamless, interoperable ecosystem. This is a role where your technical leadership will have a tangible impact, enabling researchers and partners to tackle some of today's most pressing challenges.

You'll be part of a growing, multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, sustainability, and innovation. Working closely with environmental researchers, UX specialists, software engineers, data scientists, and solution architects, you'll help co-design infrastructure that drives meaningful, real-world outcomes. Agile methodologies and user-focused design will underpin everything you deliver.

What You'll Be Doing



Lead architecture and development

of cloud-based solutions across hybrid environments, ensuring security, compliance, and alignment with best practices.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams

- software engineers, data scientists, RSEs, and semantic experts - to deliver scalable, robust solutions that power digital research.

Shape the future of digital research infrastructure

by leading proposals, shaping deliverables, and aligning projects with strategic goals.

Drive thought leadership

by contributing to publications, technical reports, and sharing insights with the wider community.

Provide technical direction and mentorship

to colleagues, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

Champion cloud-native and Agile practices

to improve development workflows, strengthen interoperability, and accelerate innovation.

Engage with stakeholders

through workshops and co-design sessions to ensure solutions are impactful, relevant, and easy to use.

What We're Looking For



A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (PhD or equivalent experience welcome). Proven experience leading the design and delivery of

cloud-native, distributed systems

(microservices, serverless, etc.) on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Strong background in

API development, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code

. Hands-on experience with

containerisation technologies

like Docker and Kubernetes (AKS experience a plus). Track record of

mentoring and team leadership

, fostering collaboration and technical excellence. Experience applying

Agile methodologies and co-design approaches

to deliver impactful software solutions. Passion for staying ahead of emerging trends in cloud technologies and software architecture. Ability to work with stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams, aligning technology with real-world research needs.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 50,000.00-55,000.00 per year
