to lead the management of a portfolio of high-value, high-risk contracts on behalf of King's College Hospital. Reporting to the Head of Contracts, you will ensure robust contract governance, performance management, financial control, and compliance across complex commercial arrangements in a highly regulated environment.
This role is client-side, senior, and influential, requiring strong commercial judgement, confidence working within statutory procurement frameworks, and the ability to manage risk and performance across the full contract lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and govern high-value, high-risk contracts, applying proportionate oversight based on value and risk
Lead contract performance management, including KPIs, SLAs, performance remedies, and dispute resolution
Navigate governance and assurance processes to enable timely and compliant decision-making
Negotiate contract variations, modifications, and revised commercial arrangements
Ensure robust financial oversight, including invoice validation and expenditure analysis
Identify and deliver cost improvement and efficiency opportunities
Monitor supplier compliance with contractual, statutory, sustainability, and financial health requirements
Maintain complete, auditable contract records using Atamis and other digital tools
Produce performance reports and present updates to senior stakeholders and committees
Collaborate with procurement colleagues on contract renewal, re-procurement, and upstream commercial strategy
Line manage and mentor junior team members, supporting capability development
About You
The ideal candidate will be a commercially astute contract management professional with experience operating in complex, regulated environments, ideally within healthcare or hospital settings.
Essential experience and knowledge:
Proven experience managing
high-value and high-risk contracts
from the
client side
in a regulated environment
Experience managing performance, variations, disputes, and risk across the
full contract lifecycle
Strong understanding of public-sector governance and assurance processes
Working knowledge of the
Procurement Act 2023 and/or the Provider Selection Regime (PSR)
, including their application to contract management (e.g. transparency, performance reporting, contract modification rules, auditability, and challenge risk)
Strong skills in applying and interpreting commercial terms, identifying negotiating levers, and formulating revised commercial deals
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including reporting to senior audiences
Desirable experience and skills:
Experience with
Private Finance Initiative (PFI)
,
Managed Equipment Service (MES)
, or other complex commercial partnerships
Experience managing healthcare or hospital contracts
Strong analytical capability, including use of
Power BI, Excel
, and digital contract management systems such as
Atamis
Interest or experience in applying
automation, RPA, or AI
to contract management and continuous improvement
Knowledge of risk management, sustainability commitments, and supplier compliance requirements
Qualifications
Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. business, law, finance, engineering, or other numerate subject)
CIPS accreditation
or a clear commitment to achieving CIPS qualification is highly advantageous
