An opportunity to play your part: As the successful candidate you will be

responsible for overseeing all aspects of the lifecycle of industrial control systems, with a primary focus on CHP technology. This includes collaborating with business and engineering teams, designing, implementing, and troubleshooting systems. You will play a pinnacle part in the design of systems to meet new business requirements to continue to innovate and improve in the field.

The day to day

  • Architect, design and implement new low-level interfaces for engineering communication and control systems, using high level programming languages and control systems protocols, with a primary focus on CHP technology.
  • Central communication from third-line CHP interface/control support requirements from operations and maintenance engineering teams.
  • Establish firmware requirements and work with third parties to make firmware recommendations and changes
  • Work alongside OT software engineering personnel to develop interfaces with Controls Systems management and reporting software.
  • Develop processes for OT management to optimise efficiencies in the use of control systems across the Centrica Business Solutions business.
  • Work closely with other Centrica OT professionals to collaborate on development and influence OT systems strategy.
  • Work with Centrica IT and Security teams to promote understanding of OT systems and make improvements where necessary to align with security best practices.
About you
  • Broad understanding of industrial control systems and operational technologies (OT).
  • Substantial engineering background with understanding of CHP (Combined Heat and Power) engine technologies.
  • Significant experience working with Industrial Control Systems bus technologies including CANbus and Modbus.
  • Ability to design interfaces using low level protocols including but not limited to: CANopen, SAE J1939, ModbusTCP, ModbusRTU.
  • TCP/IP and sockets, XML, HTML, HTTP/S, RTOS (Realtime operating systems).
  • Programming languages: Ability to use C for embedded systems.
  • The ability to design and adapt code for CHP communication/management interfaces.
  • Understanding of electrical/engineering control panel drawings.
  • Good mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge.
  • Understanding of the function of control systems firmware.
  • Control Systems / OT product implementation and support capability.
  • Autonomous and self-motivated professional with hands-on mentality.
  • Good people skills and client-oriented approach.
  • Responsive to changing business requirements and technologies.
  • Ability to coordinate various internal subject-matter experts to put together a complete solution (teamwork, agility).
  • Professional and structured communication style both internally and externally.
