Job Description

We are recruiting for a Senior Cost Control Manager to join us here at Octavius in our Rail Services division.



We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK. This particular team works in the South East region on planned and reactive rail maintenance projects correcting many thousands of faults on the rail track per year.



This is a brand new role which is an interface between the operational teams and the finance department and requires someone who is able to work both stand alone and collaboratively with a range of colleagues on a transactional, target costs contract.



This role would ideally be based out of Horsham but could also be based from Reigate, Eastleigh or Sittingbourne. It offers hybrid working with an expectation of being in the office up to 3 days per week.

You'll be working on.... (what your role and responsibility is)




To lead and manage cost control processes within the Rail Services business unit, ensuring accurate cost allocation, effective financial reporting, and compliance with the new open book commercial model. To support the implementation and optimisation of cost management systems and processes, enabling timely and accurate billing and cost recovery. To provide strategic and operational support to the Commercial Lead and wider team, ensuring commercial risks are mitigated and profitability is achieved.

About you.... (what you are skilled at)




Thorough knowledge of cost control and commercial management in a contracting environment. Experience working with open book commercial models and cost allocation systems. Familiarity with operational job management systems and ERP interfaces. Proven ability to lead teams and manage performance. Understanding of audit processes and financial compliance.

You'll bring... (your wealth of experience & qualifications)




Degree in Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification / relevant experience). Professional membership or certification (e.g. RICS, CIMA) desirable. Demonstrable experience in a senior commercial or cost control role within the infrastructure or rail sector but would also consider people with relevant experience in other large maintenance projects such as airports, housing or utilities. Knowledge of COINS is desirable.
