Location: UK -Remote Based (You will need to be near to one of our BBC Office locations to have a right to work check completed as well as collecting and returning equipment)

We are currently seeking a Senior Data Analyst to support the Ad Sales & Storyworks department, as part of our Data Analytics and Business Information teams.

Reporting to the Senior Data Manager/Director of Business Information the senior data analyst role is a 6 month FTC position as part of paternity cover, based in the UK and will support all Ad Sales & Storyworks as well as some other BBC Studios departments.

Role Responsibilities

The focus of this role will be to support across Ad Sales & Storyworks, providing regular reporting, new data projects and ad-hoc analysis, with a particular focus on building and maintaining new data pipelines, performing data transformations from a number audience and commercial platforms. This role will help equip teams within Ad Sales & Storyworks with improved data capabilities as well as implement strategic data projects, and support day to day tactical requirements.
Some of the data sources and responsibilities are:
  • Content meta data from content management systems CPS and iSite about articles and PIPS for programmes / video
  • Analyzing User Commercial Behavior e.g. click through data and value from Google AdManager
  • Creating data pipelines from analytics tools such as ATI to allow automation of MI and sales information
  • Building and supporting data warehousing in AWS/GCP to facilitate faster and more efficient storage/processing of data
  • Building and maintain dashboards (Tableau)
  • Working with stakeholders to deliver projects, providing insights and analysis to support the wider business
  • Create Integrations between audience measurement systems and ad eco system to facilitate better monetization of content and identify opportunities to improve yield
Are you the right Candidate?

For this role you will need:
  • Past experience in a Senior Data Analysis role with an exceptional track-record
  • To be Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • To be able to write efficient SQL queries, extract data, perform transformations and create views/tables
  • Familiar with building and using API connections as well as using DBT for creating automated data pipelines
  • Extensive hands on experience in processing large amount of data from various sources in a programmatic way (e.g. python, R, SQL)
  • Experience / Knowledge of cloud computing, ideally AWS or GCP (i.e. uploading and creating tables of data, optimizing them for use by visualization and BI tools)
  • Working knowledge of best practices in processing and storing data
  • To be an expert in the implementation and use of analytical tools such as Alteryx/Tableau in order to automate extraction and visualisation of data.
  • An understanding of TV, Digital or new Media would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to tell a story through data and be able to talk to other analysts, non-specialists, and can communicate with people remotely across multiple BBC sites
  • To be autonomous and problem-solving oriented
  • Detail focused whilst being able to maintain a view of the bigger picture
  • Keen to challenge the status quo and take initiatives to drive positive changes
  • Able to navigate complex and disparate systems and datasets
  • Self-starter with a natural inclination for data management
  • An enthusiasm for writing clean, well-documented, and testable code
This role will support many different parts of the BBC Studios organisation and it will be necessary for this individual to at times have communication with senior management in these teams as well as regular contact with project sponsors. It will also be essential to develop a strong network of contacts, in particular with data engineers, both within Global News and also the wider BBC.
