Job Description

ROLE: SENIOR DATA & AUTOMATION ENGINEER

We're looking for a Senior Data & Automation Engineer to join our Data team at Code First Girls.

We are a diverse team, and strongly encourage applications from all genders, men, women and non-binary people.

Code First Girls offers family-friendly, flexible working arrangements. With an office on Old Street, we offer hybrid working with one day in the office a week for those based in the South East. For those outside of the South East, we have in-person full team meetups in London approximately once a month.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Code First Girls is on a mission to close the gender gap in the tech industry by providing employment through free education. We've already helped more than 200,000 women learn to code and by working with companies globally, we're boosting employability, diversity and social mobility, transforming local economies and communities. But we want to go further - our aim is to provide one million opportunities for women to learn to code and participate in the industry in the next five years, becoming the world's first EdTech unicorn dedicated to women.

ABOUT YOU & THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced and passionate engineer to join our team and help strengthen our data and automation capabilities. You won't be a small cog in a big machine. Your work will have a visible and direct impact on our product and our mission to change the technology industry.

This role is perfect for someone with a genuine passion for driving social impact and a desire to change the technology industry. As we are a fast-paced business, a 'roll up your sleeves and dive in' attitude is essential.

While your core focus will be on data engineering and automation, your work will lay the foundation for future innovations, with opportunities for you to contribute to AI/ML projects that will shape the future of our learning experience.

Core Languages:

Strong technical foundation with advanced proficiency in Python and SQL is essential. You'll use these daily to build robust data pipelines and script automation tasks.

Data & Cloud Platforms:

Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (we use GCP, but experience with AWS or Azure is highly transferable). You should be comfortable building and managing systems in a cloud environment.

Engineering Mindset:

You operate with a professional engineering mindset, writing clean, maintainable code, using version control (Git), believe in the importance of testing your work and write clear documentation so others can build upon what you've created.

Full-Lifecycle Contributor:

You thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You enjoy contributing across the full tech and data lifecycle, from initial requirements and system design through to development, deployment and maintenance.

Collaborative Spirit:

You are a supportive team member who actively engages in peer support and knowledge-sharing, enjoying the process of learning from and with your colleagues.

A Desire to Learn:

You are excited by the opportunity to develop your skills in automation and AI. Experience with tools like n8n or Zapier and JavaScript is a plus, but a strong willingness to learn is more important.

The above is our wishlist, please don't be put off applying if you don't match all of those criteria. Skills can be taught, but what's most important to us is finding the right person for our team.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Maintain our single source of truth:

You'll manage the integration of our platform data into our warehouse (GCP), ensuring the reliability of datasets the entire organisation depends on.

Build a connected data ecosystem:

You will build and maintain robust data connections between our core software products (like our learning platform and CRM) to improve our internal processes.

Automate to innovate:

You'll partner with teams across the business, identify their biggest operational bottlenecks and build automation solutions using platforms like n8n and custom scripts.

Empower our Teams and Partners:

You will prepare and maintain the key datasets used across the business, powering everything from our external client portal to our internal operational applications.

Build systems that last:

Your commitment to writing clean, testable and well-documented code will ensure our data infrastructure remains a strategic asset as we grow.

Collaborate and grow:

You will be a key member of our technical team, contributing to a supportive learning environment through peer support and active knowledge-sharing.
