The Opportunity

Engineering Laboratories forms the backbone of JLR\'s internal vehicle test and development capability, and is responsible for a wide and diverse range of activities including Structural Test, Body Rig Test, Road Load Data, Analytical Facilities, NVH, Climatic Test, and Safety Test.

The Facility & Technology Development team are responsible for the design and delivery of facility components, test rigs and the infrastructure required in support of the core PAV areas delivering physical test plans. The area is also responsible for the development and delivery of key new facilities, technology, infrastructure and strategy for PAV, project leading from concept through to delivery.

The role will see the associate lead the design and delivery of bespoke test rigs and fixtures in support of the core cycle plan across all the Engineering Labs test areas. These rigs will vary from component to system level or full vehicle testing.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Designing test rigs and components using the 3DX toolset (Catia V6) from concept to delivery.
Creating 2D drawings for manufacture of parts at internal JLR workshops and external suppliers.
Liaising with customers to identify testing requirements, and ensuring test rigs are capable of the task.
Liaising with workshop fitters and supervisors.
Managing and planning workload to ensure on time delivery of test rigs.
Validation of designs using appropriate methods e.g., Hand Calculations, kinematics, MBS (Multibody Simulations), FEA/CAE.
Creating technical reports.
Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

Experience of working as a mechanical engineer within a test environment with a focus on component and system level rig design.
Knowledge of testing methodologies relating to the testing of road vehicles.
Knowledge of vehicle architecture, components and mechanical systems.
Experienced CAD user for 3D modelling.
Understanding of linear static analysis and durability/fatigue calculations.
Understanding of metallic material properties and application in structural design and analysis.
Ability to produce and interpret 2D complex detailed drawings in order to prepare parts for manufacture and assembly.
Understanding of various manufacturing techniques and how to optimise designs accordingly.
Ability to manage workload, priorities, identify issues and solutions using own initiative.

Desirable:

Competent user of 3DExperience toolset or Catia V5/V6.
Competent user of 3DExperience simulation tools.
Experience with SimSolid.
Degree qualified in a relevant discipline.
Experience of collaborative team environments.
Experience operating and working in a technically capable team.
