Working within a formal ISO9001 & ISO13485 compliant design development process, you will manage significant projects and sometimes small teams of colleagues to deliver projects on time and to budget. You will have commercial responsibility, and it will regularly involve working on multiple projects in different phases of work, so managing time and priorities to suit available resources and client needs will be required.

Typically working to a client's brief, but sometimes on our own technology, your typical days would include:

Research & Idea Generation Concept Design & Development to solve complex mechanical challenges Human Factors & User Studies Risk Analysis & Management 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks) & PDM Design Engineering, using hand calculations and FEA when required DFMEA's Design for Manufacture & liaison with external manufacturers Tolerance Analysis 2D Drawings, using GD&T where required Assembling and testing prototypes Project and account management Meeting with clients via Microsoft Teams to discuss live projects Join new enquiry meetings to support the business development function, and produce proposals for us to win new projects. Supporting team members on technical aspects, design reviews and drawing checks
We strive for efficient design and engineering to deliver successful projects so you will also make use of a wide variety of different tools and processes to solve the inevitable challenges of creating cutting edge designs.

3D design and component detailing must be first class, with fully drafted plastic parts and all moulding requirements identified. Any steel and fabricated parts must be designed considering available materials and manufacturing processes from the outset. Our client's products are of the highest quality, so our designs need to be thoroughly engineered to perform in the same manner.

HD has been established for nearly 30 years and is eager to grow further in our target sectors. Experience Required

Due to the nature of our work we are looking for someone with at least 7 years design and engineering experience. Knowledge and experience of medical device development would be an advantage but a mechanical design aptitude, particularly of complex/small mechanisms and moulding in a highly regulated industry, would be considered. A track record of developing successful products from concept through to volume production, utilising a range of materials and manufacturing processes, is a must. A good understanding of project management and its accompanying commercial implications would be helpful too. We are looking for someone fully conversant with the suite of SolidWorks software. However, we do realise that the person we are looking for may not be able to cover the whole range of skills required so training will be provided to cover any shortfalls in knowledge. You must be located in the UK or have plans to relocate near Stafford as we typically work from the office, 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Qualified to minimum degree level in an engineering discipline, with the ability to think laterally and focus your energy on the needs of our clients.

Schedule:

Job Type: Full-time. Typically, Monday to Friday lunchtime, (Tuesday-Thursday in our Stafford Office)
