Deputy to Engineering Manager
ESSENTIAL GENERIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include but are not limited to the following:
1. Oversee day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, being responsible for on-time, to quality delivery of General Arrangement drawings, contract specific BOM's, associated contract specific drawings.
2. Schedule day to day work to meet operational objectives liaising closely with the Engineering Manager and other departmental managers and teams (notably Projects, Production, Aftermarket, Installation and Proposals) to set engineering objectives and report on performance
4. Review applicable contract job data, project plans and specifications to determine engineering requirements and deliverables.
5. Work closely with all company departments and functions of the business and external bodies to ensure that the most economic, safe, to specification and suitable design is achieved
6. Generate design, general arrangement and other submittal drawings within contract estimated hours and timescales
7. Maintain an effective engineering department record system for drawings and associated data for future reference.
8. Perform all work in accordance with required company health & safety and environmental policies and procedures and set a leadership example in health, safety and environmental management
9. Perform all work in accordance with required Quality policy and procedures and set a leadership example in quality management
10. Implement improvements to the current range of standard equipment and services, promote ideas for innovation and develop productivity improvement within the Engineering Dept
11. Apply minimum / good practice safety standards in the design and application products and services
12. Provide technical support to Sales & Marketing with information, drawings, and calculations
13. Update Project Managers and Project Engineers of project status and issues
14. Other duties may be assigned as required
LOCAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include but are not limited to the following:
1. Provide design calculations and documentation support for project work
2. Prepare and update layouts, detailed drawings, calculations, specifications, and documenting instructions necessary for project success
3. Review of detailed drawings and bills of materials during and prior to be issued for manufacture
4. Create site layouts & equipment general assembly's (3D Inventor)
5. Review and adhere to project specifications & applicable standards
6. Produce CAD drawings for equipment, civil work layouts and mechanical design details to specific requirements
7. Review of detail drawings and bills of materials during and prior to being issued for manufacture
8. Perform basic engineering analysis
9. Project planning to adhere to submission requirements
10. Attend project meetings both internally & with clients
11. Perform project engineer/management tasks as required
12. Input to & maintain design risk registers and ITPs (inspection and test plans)
13. Assess civil work requirements to suit equipment
15. Provide detailed design for outsourced manufacturing, installation, maintenance & decommissioning of equipment
16. Create detailed Parts lists/BOM with applicable software
17. Liaise with suppliers - obtaining specifications and quotations for equipment/services
18. Provide input to & checking of Technical Manuals to ensure bespoke nature of equipment is captured
19. Support Installation department, including any build modifications & respective drawing updates
20. Support Production department
21. Support Aftermarket department
22. Detailed checking of all drawings, documentation & calculations
23. Other duties may be assigned as required
LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department under guidance of the Engineering Manager
Organise and schedule day to day operational work against objectives, coordinate the activities of the Engineering Dept team
Report on day to day operational engineering performance
Resource planning support to meet the company supply / demand requirements
Manage departmental timesheets submissions
Support departmental training and mentoring to meet the company's statutory and other competence standards
Support NCR (non-conformance report) investigation, close out and improvement implementation
Deputise for the Engineering Manager
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent in Engineering discipline and/or several years relevant related experience, preferably gained within the waste water industry in an engineering design role
Excellent skills, knowledge and experience in design software, for example AutoCAD and Inventor or equivalent
Knowledge & application of Hazop, design risk assessments, CDM
Knowledge & application of Machinery Directive, CE marking & equivalent, ATEX requirements and other applicable standards with respective collating & filing of all data
Knowledge and application of BIM
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Excellent communication skills with team members, company management, suppliers and customers
Ability to read, analyse, and interpret water industry related documents to a higher competence level.
Ability to understand read, write and converse in English to a higher competence level.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT, DECISION MAKING & PROBLEM SOLVING
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide and complex range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to make decisions requiring the use of a variety of complex variables in standard situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Must be proficient with a personal computer using company-standard software with ability to become proficient in customer or other third party software
Mathematical Skills: Ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts to a higher competence level.
Travel: Must be able to travel on occasions nationally and internationally.
Other:
a. Ability to read and understand specification, fabrication, erection, and standard engineering drawings;
b. Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and assembly techniques;
c. Knowledge of drafting standard for both structural and mechanical design;
